| Drake Farstrider01-31-06, 05:38 AM | So I was wondering can monsters have multiple templates, IE: I was thinking of making a Legendary Feindish Rust Monster just to mess with my players heads. I looked in the Rule books and found no answer. If you can help I would be so happy. Thanks |
| RavinRay01-31-06, 06:43 AM | Yes, it is possible. For prime example of the good, the bad, and the ugly (it's anyone's call), go to the Creature Competition 3 - Dragons (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=566471) thread at the top of this forum and see what the folks here have done to your basic dragon. |
| runestar01-31-06, 08:28 AM | No limit really, so long as the templates are legal and don't contradict each other. :) |
| Drake Farstrider01-31-06, 03:18 PM | Thank's for the replies guys. |
| kdyal01-31-06, 03:46 PM | Yeah, you cannot have more than one "1/2" template, for example. Common sense is needed... |
| Delestial01-31-06, 03:49 PM | Yeah, you cannot have more than one "1/2" template, for example. Common sense is needed... I believe that if you have more than one "1/2" template it becomes a "1/3" or "1/4", etc. |
| cwslyclgh01-31-06, 03:57 PM | sure you can have more then one 1/2 template, note that having a 1/2 template can be gotten in more ways then simply having a parent of the type you are 1/2 of... magical experimentation, transformational prestige classes, etc. are all possible explanations for this. |
| kdyal01-31-06, 05:35 PM | Allow me to correct myself. Without some serious fluff, you cannot have more than one 1/2 template... |
| CthulhuRyleh02-01-06, 01:56 AM | so you couldn't be a human with half fiend + half celestial, but you could be a half fiendish solar, if your're willing to overlook the loss of abilities the utter nonesense of the idea, the fact that solars are always LG.. etc |
| runestar02-01-06, 02:18 AM | so you couldn't be a human with half fiend + half celestial, Actually, by the MM, you can(just that it must be neutral, and you have a henious +8LA to contend with). But yeah, without some major backstory to back up up, chances are that your dm will probably not let this slide. |
| Darth Sephiroth02-01-06, 04:56 AM | Half-Celestial, Fiendish, Draconic, Werewolf... |
| Drake Farstrider02-01-06, 05:16 AM | A 1/2 dragon 1/2 Troll sounds intersting. :plotting: :evillaugh |
| runestar02-01-06, 06:49 AM | Half-Celestial, Fiendish, Draconic, Werewolf... I think werewolf can't be applied to outsiders. :) But a half-black dragon war troll seems all the rage these days... :D |
| Drake Farstrider02-01-06, 04:08 PM | That most definitly is what I was thinking. |
| Darth Sephiroth02-01-06, 05:03 PM | I think werewolf can't be applied to outsiders. :) But a half-black dragon war troll seems all the rage these days... :D Reverse the order, I'm sure it is possible for an outsider to have the shapechanger subtype... Anyway, here is another shot at the uber list... Lycanthrope, Draconic, Fiendish, Half-Dragon, of Legend, Half-Celestial, Paragon (apply in written order) |
| Drake Farstrider02-01-06, 06:17 PM | Hmm how about a Legendary Fiendish 1/2 ogre 1/2 dragon. :schemes: |
| The Vorpal Tribble02-01-06, 06:25 PM | I managed to fit 25 templates on a creature once using all the rules. Basically if you jumble them right the majority of templates out there can be put on the same creature. Stupid as all get out, but it was a contest ;) |

But keep in mind that crazy template-stacking can completely upset the CR tables. If you're not careful you can get a CR 1 monster with Strength 70-something or a CR 25 monster with 46 hp. |
