DMMagic 02-10-05, 04:35 PM	I know this gets into the murky issue of psionics, but does anyone know of a no-bells-and-whistles interpretation of the PD's telepathy? In the monster manual it says it has telepathy up to 60 ft. Does that mean it can just send messages, or also receive messages if the subject is willing? If there's a will save, what might the DC be? I don't want to do anything tricky with the ability, I just want to know if there's ever a way for the party to send me a message through my PD familiar. Sorry if this info is somewhere in the core 3 and I just didn't see.
primemover003 02-10-05, 04:41 PM	From the SRD: Telepathy (Su): A creature with this ability can communicate telepathically with any other creature within a certain range (specified in the creature’s entry, usually 100 feet) that has a language. It is possible to address multiple creatures at once telepathically, although maintaining a telepathic conversation with more than one creature at a time is just as difficult as simultaneously speaking and listening to multiple people at the same time. Some creatures have a limited form of telepathy, while others have a more powerful form of the ability. It just means it can talk to creatures nearby. It can't read minds without a Detect Thoughts like ability.
DMMagic 02-10-05, 04:55 PM	See, that's what I originally thought... but then I read the description of the pseudo-dragon familiar and it said that the dragon isn't "chosen" by the mage, but rather the dragon stalks someone, reading their thoughts to determine if they're worth connecting to. That threw me off a little. Maybe it has a general empathic sense of people if it spends time probing them (like Counselor Troy on Star Trek)
