jakesand2000 10-23-03, 03:39 PM	Can Psuedodragons Read Peoples MINDS???? it says they have telepathy.. So it says in telepathy that you can communicate with somoeone within 60 feet without talking... but in the Little paragraph it says they follow the potential master reading there thoughts and watching what they do to see if there good enough.. so my question is can they read anyones thoughts within 60 feet. thats what i get out of it.. PAGE 152 of The Monster Manual.... Thanks for any feedback...
shmeg 10-23-03, 03:52 PM	no, they can't read thoughts. I think what they meant was that the pseudodragon follows the character watching them to see if their worthy and playing pranks to test them.

Detect Thoughts Divination [Mind-Affecting] Level: Brd 2, Knowledge 2, Sor/Wiz 2 Components: V, S, F/DF Casting Time: 1 action Range: 60 ft. Area: Quarter circle emanating from the character to the extreme of the range Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute/level (D) Saving Throw: Will negates (see text) Spell Resistance: No The character can detect surface thoughts. The amount of information revealed depends on how long the character studies a particular area or subject: 1st Round: Presence or absence of thoughts (from conscious creatures with Intelligence scores of 1 or higher). 2nd Round: Number of thinking minds and the mental strength of each. 3rd Round: Surface thoughts of any mind in the area. A target’s Will save prevents the character from reading its thoughts, and the character must cast detect thoughts again to have another chance. Creatures of animal intelligence (Int 1 or 2) have simple, instinctual thoughts that the character can pick up. Intelligence Mental Strength ------------ --------------- 1–2 Animal 3–5 Very low 6–9 Low 10–11 Average 12–15 High 16–17 Very high 18–21 Genius 22–25 Supra-genius 26+ Deific Note: Each round, the character can turn to detect thoughts in a new area. The spell can penetrate barriers, but 1 foot of stone, 1 inch of common metal, a thin sheet of lead, or 3 feet of wood or dirt blocks it. Arcane Focus: A copper piece. Mind reading isn't that hard.

I think telepathy can read surface thoughts, kinda like "Man the barbarian needs to take a shower." as the wizard walks behind the huge hide clad warrior, or "This is gonna hurt." what the fighter says in his mind before the orges club smacks him in the face. I can see it being used for roleplaying, it has no effect like detect thoughts or read minds though.
