Can't find the creature with an ability I think I saw [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-07-04, 02:32 AM Today I made a trip to the local used book shop, and low and behold! I found copies of the MMII, Fiend Folio, and Dracomnicon in near-perfect condition for half the cover price! Well, I jumped all over that deal; but while in the store I sat down and was looking through them, and I swear I saw some creature that had a Death-throws type of ability that allowed it to deal some insane ammount of damage with a really high Reflex save DC (in the 40's). I didn't really take note of what creature it was, and now I can't remember the creature.

Note, it was not the pheonix's immolate that I am thinking of; I saw this and thought it was so much more powerful.

After having looked through them tonight I've come to the conclusion that I might have been looking at the Thunder Worm's Thunderclap ability from the FF, but I have this nagging rememberace that this creature had few enough hit dice that it could be Shapechanged into.

Anybody have any ideas as to what else I might be thinking of?

04-07-04, 05:24 AM I don't have the MM2 handy, but I don't remember anything like that being in the Draconomicon or the Friend Folio (slip intentional), and I do remember things like that in the MM2. So I'd suggest starting an intensive search there.

Edit: By the way, nice find.

04-07-04, 07:07 AM Great, now you make me feel unsophisticated... YOU remember the Fiendwurm for its deadly death throes, I remember it because it has an ability named "Demonic Belch"...

Anyway, it IS a pretty cool monster, though I have to wonder WHY exactly someone was opening portals to the Abyss in the middle of earthworms anyway...
