I'm having trouble with what may be an inconsistancy in MM 3.5, or maybe I just don't understand it.

Question 1.

In the description of the vampire template, under Full Attack, it says that the vampire "usually uses [a] weapon as its primary attack, along with a slam or other natural weapon as a natural secondary attack".

This is consistant with the minotaur, for example, which gets iterative weapon attacks plus a secondary gore. It is also consistent with page 299, "Natural and Manufactured Weapons".

However, in the sample vampire description of the vampire fighter, the Full Attack entry lists "slam +11 melee ... or +1 spiked chain +13 melee". Shouldn't it be "+1 spiked chain +13 melee ... and slam +6 melee"? Or is the slam omitted because the hands have already been used for the spiked chain?

Question 2.

The sample elite vampire gets three unarmed attacks, all listed as 1d10+5 plus energy drain. Does the energy drain happen on whichever hits first, whichever the vampire chooses, or all three strikes? Notice that the template description says that the vampire can use its energy drain ability once per round.

Can anyone help please? Thank you!

1. It's kind of hard to Claw someone when you've got something in each hand (trust me, I've tried).

2. You energy drain every time you successfully strike with the appropriate attack.

2. You can only energy drain once per round. This is clearly stated in the MM and covered in the FAQ.
