Caster Level for Creatures with LA [Archive] - Wizards Community

12-08-03, 02:03 PM Would the +4 level adjustment for a lich add to its caster level? What about other ECL creatures and characters? Do no spell casting, non PC/NPC class levels apply to caster level?

For a 13th level Wizard/Lich would its caster level be:

13 = Wizard Class levels, or

17 = Wizard Class levels + Lich LA

With your lich example, the caster level would be 13.
In short, ONLY classes that give spellcasting ability add to caster level.

For example (as per Savage Species), a pixie's caster level for its spell-like abilities is equal to its class levels +5, while an aranea (3HD, LA+4) casts spells as a 3rd-level sorcerer, which stacks with normal sorcerer levels.

In the above lich example, however, ieattrollsforbreakfast is correct, the lich's caster level would be 13.
