| cwslyclgh09-02-03, 12:34 PM | welcome to the 63rd installment of monster of the week, hope you have enjoyed them this far, and hope that you will continue to do so. Let me know what you think of this weeks creation. Wes :) Cave Siren Medium Aberration Hit Dice: 4d8+4 (22 Hp) Initiative: +2 (Dex) Speed: 30ft., Fly 30ft. (good) Armor Class: 17 (+2 dex, +5 natural) Base Attack/Grapple: +3/+4 Attack: claw +4 melee (1d4+1) Full Attack: 4 claws +4 melee (1d4+1) Bite +2 melee (1d3 plus poison) Space/Reach: 5ft./5ft. Special Attacks: Captivating song, Poison Special Qualities: Darkvision 120ft. Saves: Fort +2, Ref +3, Will +5 Abilities: Str 12, Dex 15, Con 12, Int 11, Wis 13, Cha 18 Skills: Hide +8, Jump +7, Listen +7, Spot +7 Feats: Alertness, Multiattack Environment: any underground Organization: solitary or pair Challenge Rating: 3 Treasure:50% standard Alignment: often chaotic evil Advancement: 5-12 HD (medium) Level Adjustment: -- Bizarre predators from deep beneath the earth, the cave siren hunts prey in the underdark much the same way that a harpy hunts prey on the surface. A Cave siren looks much like a giant horrid cricket about 5 feet long, it stands upright on its hind two legs, the other four ending in terrible claws that can inflict grievous wounds. Two pairs of long membranous wings like those of a dragonfly sprout from the Cave siren’s back. The predominant coloring is grayish green, often with dark green spots on the chest and head. Many would dismiss Cave Sirens as simply another bizarre undardark bug if not for the fact that they often converse with others using a strangely accented form of undercommon. Combat Cave Sirens prefer to prey on lone wanderers in the underdark, whether drow, gobliniod, or surface adventurer make little difference to them. They prefer to captivate their prey with their song and then dine at their leisure, but can fight viciously if threatened. Captivating Song (Su): When a Cave Siren sings, all creatures (other than Cave Sirens) within a 300-foot spread must succeed at a Will save (DC 16) or become utterly captivated. This is a sonic, mind-affecting charm. If the save is successful, that creature cannot be affected again by that Cave Siren’s song for one day. A captivated victim walks toward the Cave Siren, taking the most direct route available. If the path leads into a dangerous area, that creature gets a second saving throw. Captivated creatures can take no actions other than to defend themselves. A victim within 5 feet of the Cave Siren stands there and offers no resistance to the monster’s attacks. The effect continues for as long as the Cave Siren sings. A bard’s countersong ability allows the captivated creature to attempt a new Will save. The save DC is Charisma Based. Poison (Ex): Bite, Fortitude save (DC 13); Initial and secondary damage 1d6 temporary Strength, the save DC is Constitution based. *skills Cave Sirens get a +6 racial bonus to jump checks. |
| ieattrollsforbreakfast09-02-03, 03:20 PM | I like it! Its simple but it works well and is good for low levels parties and DMs that don't want to deal with lots of abilties. Once again cwslyclgh, you have done well! Although I might have added a racial jump bonus since they have the legs of a cricket. |
| RhoxandRoll09-02-03, 03:42 PM | Is there a link to any of the othr monster of the week postings? |

| cwslyclgh09-03-03, 12:58 AM | Although I might have added a racial jump bonus since they have the legs of a cricket. I didn't figure they needed it given thier fly speed and good manuverability. |
| Dr_Draco09-03-03, 10:58 AM | Not bad :). Man, the Underdark just gets meaner and meaner every day ;). :behold: Dr. D |
| cwslyclgh09-03-03, 02:10 PM | Man, the Underdark just gets meaner and meaner every day as it should ;) |

| RhoxandRoll09-03-03, 03:19 PM | Sorry I didn't say this in my last post, but... You are king o' monsters!!!!!! |
| cwslyclgh09-03-03, 03:55 PM | thanks :) |
| ieattrollsforbreakfast09-03-03, 03:59 PM | On the jump skill bonus: I didn't figure they needed it given thier fly speed and good manuverability. I thought about that too before posting, but then I thought what if it was denied its flight for some reason, like if it had its wings cut off or tied down. Just a thought ;) |
| cwslyclgh09-03-03, 04:16 PM | thats a valid point... I guess I could add a +6 racial bonus to jump checks. |
| The Gray09-03-03, 04:56 PM | Nice. And cool-looking; glad you didn't just have it as a regular siren that lives in caves. Good low-CR monster for Underdark adventures. |
| cwslyclgh09-03-03, 08:21 PM | glad you like it The Gray |
| Steve Russell09-04-03, 02:48 AM | I really like this one it has a wonderful visual its really to bad you can't find an artist who could be bothered to do quick scetches for the Monster of the Week thread. again keep up all the good work it is well appreciated. (as I will steal it for my games) |
