Cave Trolls make a rather nasty encounter as a CR8, but I need some clarification on their abilities, namely, their combination of pounce, improved grab, and rake. When they pounce, they are allowed two rakes, they also get to use their bite, and if successful, are allowed to use improved grab. Here's the tricky part: Rake says that "a cave troll that gets a hold can make two rake attacks with it's hind legs..." Does that mean that whenever it succeeds at grappling, it gets 2 additional attacks.

If so, a cave troll's first turn could look something like: 2 Claw Attacks, Dazing Blow, Rend, Rake, Rake, Bite, Improved Grab, Rake, Rake. This assumes, of course that all attacks are successful, but that comes out to (2d6+12) + (2d6+12) + (4d6+13) + (2d6+7) + (2d6+7) + (1d8+7) + (2d6+7) + (2d6+7) and an oppenent is grappled and dazed for one round. Total Damage: 16d6+1d8+72 Average Damage: 132 That's rather frightening when a barbarian is only going to have around 90 hp at most.

Of course, the hit mods aren't amazing, but they aren't horrible either.

I would probably limit the troll to 2 rakes per round, although the description seems to allow 4. It just seems wrong somehow.
