Xenia 10-20-05, 08:32 PM	I have a character about to take Beloved of Valarian from BoED and regarding the Celestial Charger they can call, I do understand that a monster w/o hands can store materials components on it's person, but the Charger casts spells like Restoration, which require costly components. Now, perhaps on the good planes, diamond dust falls like rain, but logically, where would a free-roaming, material plane bound Charger find her diamond dust? I do wonder if the writers considered this. As far as my reaping the benefits of a cleric companion, my DM and I agree that if I need to call another Charger as in the Beloved rules, it appears with the components for the spells it has prepared. However, I guess I'll just have to buy the costly components for its spells afterward. I suppose this is neat, that me as a paladin works together with the cleric unicorn to get his spells prepared and castable; however it's also neat if WoTC intended for the Charger to cast without costly components. :devil: Also, what about the magic items that the Charger "owns?" Do they appear with it, so it's identical to the monster entry? (If I druid SNA9, I bet the charger appears with all its gear) If not, I can't even afford magic items for myself, much less +5 bracers of armor for my mount. What if the Charger dies... the bracers are left behind to sell, technically, though I can imagine Lurue (because we're playing in FR) would be fairly ****** and the next Charger I summoned would appear minus +5 bracers. On a happy note, if I achieve at least paladin level 6 (the min level for a unicorn mount, according to the DMG), my DM is letting me treat the Beloved's unicorn as a mount, with mount benefits from my paladin levels. Then I just take Holy Mount (dragon 325) and let my ranger and Beloved levels stack up to make quite the kickass companion. Unfortunately, he loses the mount benefits when I gain Call Celestial Charger and he turns into one, until I'm level 16 (Charger CR 13 + 3, according to DMG pg 204) and the mount benefits start progressing again. (Though the DM is letting the Empathetic Link, SHare saves/spells, imp. evasion stay, since it makes no sense that these vanish, whereas the mount bonus HD kinda get encompassed in the gaining HD to become a Charger)
Xenia 10-21-05, 11:20 AM	More simply put, do summoned or called monsters, or companions you gain from class abilities, arrive/appear as the stat block in the MM, with gear and such?
