How does a celestial charger cast spells that require a divine focus or material components?

Does a creature have to max out its creature advancement before it takes levels in a character class, or is it just coincidence that they maxed out the celestial charger's unicorn hit dice before giving it cleric levels?

thanks! :)

It has to have those components on it's body somewhere.

No, if you'll notice in the book, they like to triple creature's racial HD and then add a template. There aren't even rules for advancing with racial HD actually; higher racial HD just means you're a bigger and tougher member of the species, better genes.

Is that speculation or does a book contain some text to that effect? I know we wouldn't let a creature with hands do that. I wonder what the wizards had in mind, or if perhaps they never considered it.

Kirkgensengill flexes his mighty muscles, flaps his wings powerfully, and flies the thread back to the top...

Sorry it took me so long to reply.

The text is on page 315 of the 3.5 MM, under Spells.

Thanks! I see that it can either just touch the components or have them on its body. How the heck can a creature without manipulative digits PUT the items on it's body in the first place?! :D

-They would have to somehow have access to the focus or components necessary. However, being that the unicorn is a relatively intelligent creature, I'm sure that it can come up with a creative way to deal with this.

Does a creature (like a unicorn) have to max out its creature advancement

before it takes levels in a character class, or is it just coincidence that the

authors of the Monster Manual maxed out the celestial charger's unicorn hit

dice before giving it cleric levels?

-Not necessarily. It is just a coincidence that they did this in the book.
