| Wiglaf11-16-05, 05:47 AM | Hi, I was just about to compile stat-blocks for all those creatures summoned by the sundry "summon monster" spells, when I came upon an apparent clash between the vermin-type and the celestial/ fiendish-template. Vermin have no intelligence score and are therefore mindless (or vice versa). Celestial/ fiendish creatures have an intelligence score of at least 3. So if I add the celestial template to a large monstrous centipede it gets an intelligence score of 3 and is no longer mindless. Moreover it should have acces to 6 skill points (1 x (HD + 3) and 2 feats (1+ 1 per 3 HD) (as stated in MM p. 301). Are these computations correct or does extraplanar vermin stay mindless? This would greatly change the abilities of some of the larger Monsters, once those centipedes (and spiders and scorpions) get "Snatch", "Improved Natural Armor" or "Improved Natural Attack" - not to mention "Power Attack", "Awesome Blow", "Powerful charge" and the like... |
