| illiterate07-14-06, 12:54 PM | After watching the recent Narnia release a second time, I'm convinced I want to run a centaur PC sometime soon.... One thing bothering me, though. Why can't they kick like a horse? Physics? (too hard to balance), game balance? I realize that they're massively amazingly good for a LA2 critter, but I'm just surprised they don't get a kick attack. [edit: nevermind, i found out they can.. RTFM] Also, does it have access to mounted combat style feats? Spirited charge, anyone? |
| Bluehero07-14-06, 01:32 PM | don't forget to add in a centaurs racial hit dice when deterining ECL. Other than that, I think that a centaur would be considered mounted for the purpose of those feats , but I'm not sure where exactly it says that. |
| Shadow Weaver07-14-06, 01:49 PM | Just hope you never have to climb anything or be teleported anywhere. I know both can be done, but climbing would be awkward, and having that Large weight multiplier is pretty counterproductive. All things considered, I too would like to play a centaur, and often threaten my DM with the idea. |
| questionc07-14-06, 03:08 PM | Mounted combat is only balanced on the assumption that characters won't be able to take their horses into dungeons, and will have to constantly play with skill checks. I can't say for sure that there isn't a book out there somewhere that lets centaur fight as if mounted... but there certainly isn't such a rule in Core, and for good reason. |

Centaurs in DnD *can* kick like a horse--they have hoof attacks, after all. Centaurs in DnD are treated as Mounted for purposes of prereqs. They effectively have Mounted Combat as a bonus feat for purposes of meeting prerequisites. Also, Centaurs are ECL 6 creatures. |
