| questionc09-01-04, 11:07 AM | Hmm... you know, it never occoured to me... but that *is* a pretty dumb idea that centaurs use large weapons, since it's just the horse part that's big. If you were to take away large weapons though, I'd say also take away most of the other things that come with being large... -8 Str +2 Dex -4 Con -3 Nat Armor So, it's basically a highly dexterous mini-centaur. Rebuild the monster concept, call it a 'Fillie' or something, say it's a primitive version of the centaur, redo it's CR, and bam. |

The centaur's humanoid torso is proportional to the large horse body and it is a fair bit larger than a human torso. A great visual example is the first harry potter movie. The brief scene involving a centaur shows them as being very large creatures. No just human sized torsos stuck on a horse's neck and in fact they resemble humans only vaguely as it should be IMHO. Look at that scene and see if you can imagine them using a greatsword in one hand with no problem. I'm a big fan of each monster looking unique in its own way and not being a direct patchwork job. Along that line, I was very happy to see what the artists did to many of the monsters in the 3.0 monster manual. A manticore is no longer a lion with a man's head but you could use that method to describe what it looks like to someone... as a simile. |
| Andarious09-01-04, 02:35 PM | They're big dudes on top of horses, look at the picture, a real humans torso would be MUCH smaller compared to a large horse(And look funny). If you where to make something more human sized, I'd work on hybriding a human and a pony. Medium size, but double carrying capacity as if it where large as an Ex ability, and maybe +2 or +4 str, only 2 racial HD? Just an idea. |
| ShinQuickMan09-01-04, 02:41 PM | Well, thanks a lot! I've never thought of the body being that much bigger. But now that you mention it, a centaur's human torso being proportionate to that of an average human's would look funny... Anyway, thanks again. |
