Centaurs as Characters - Help! [Archive] - Wizards Community

02-05-04, 01:16 PM I just need a bit of a clarification:

I don't usually use monstrous characters, but the Centaur is a close match for a setting specific creature in a setting I am about to use in a game.

Centaur Stats (http://3.5srd.com/web/stephenh/monsters/CENTAUR.html)

It has 4 levels of Monstrous humanoid, but a Level ajdustment of 2. So, if the characters are starting at 5th level, should the centaur have 1 class level or 3?

02-05-04, 02:03 PM Without using Savage Species monster class rules, you cant play a Centaur at level 5. The total ECL if LA+HD, which is 6, so a centaur is the equivalent of a 6th level character, and thats without any class levels.

4HD of centaur + 2LA + (-1) = 5 ECL

Sorry, you have to start at 7th level to play a centaur! Its HD & LA alone make it a 6th level character. If you add even 1 class level, you are a 7th level character.
Maybe you should try something with fewer HD.

Zug Zug. You can play a centaur in fact with 6th level characters - it would simply be the same as a normal centaur, with no class levels.

If you don't have savage species, you could make up your own progression - shouldn't be that hard something like (don't have the mm on me =p).

BAB +1, Fort 0, Ref 2, Will 2, 1 D8 HD, +2 STR, +1 nat armor, +10 feet movement, -2 INT, 60 ft Darkvision
BAB +1, Fort 0, Ref 2, Will 2, 2 D8 HD, +2 CON, +2 DEX
BAB +2, Fort 0, Ref 3, Will 3, 2 D8 HD, +2 STR, Hoof attack (1x), +2 WIS, +2 nat armor
BAB +3, Fort 0, Ref 3, Will 3, 3 D8 HD, +2 STR, +10 feet movement
BAB +3, Fort 0, Ref 3, Will 3, 4 D8 HD, +2 CON, Hoof attack (2x), +3 nat armor
BAB +4, Fort 1, Ref 4, Will 4, 4 D8 HD, +2 STR, +2 DEX, large size
