Ceremorphosis-ized Template? [Archive] - Wizards Community

02-16-07, 09:56 AM After browsing my Lords of Madness last night i started wondering; could Ceremorphosis be templated? Ignoring specific monsters that already have little swimmers in their heads, could there be a defininate way to do this? Ive heard of the half-illithid template from Savage Species (?), does this cover the basic idea or is it something different?

02-16-07, 10:16 AM The template in Fiend Folio, which is (I believe) a reprint of the Savage Species template, has a sidebar that explains about ceremorphosis on humanoids besides just humans.

Never bought FF either... Maybe i should stop getting books just for the prestige classes within and get something useful...

Are you asking if ceremorphosis could be handled like an acquired template? If so, the answer is no (I'm assuming that the victim is normally capable of undergoing ceremorphosis ). During ceremorphosis, the illithid tadpole consumes most of the victim's brain, leaving only the lower brain stem. Also, ceremorphosis replaces all of the victim's original tissue. This would mean that an illithid does not gain the personality, memories, physical attributes, or mental attributes of the victim of its ceremorphosis.

[i]The Illithiad states that only victims of certain height and weight requirements can be used for ceremorphosis.

Height (in feet): 5'4"-6'2"
Weight (in pounds): 130-270

Thus, mind flayers are almost uniformly the same size and weight (explaining why adventurers never meet extremely fat mind flayers).

Lords of Madness is a great resource for aberrations, but for a more in-depth look at the illithid, you should read The Illithiad (A PDF copy can be purchased at Paizo.com (http://www.paizo.com) or RPGNOW.com (http://www.rpgnow.com)). It's a 2ed book, but the fluff is is well worth it.

02-20-07, 01:53 PM The half-illithid template from Fiend Folio is probably your best bet, though others have already said that. The flavor is a bit wrong, since the flavor (and some of the crunch) of ceremorphosis have changed a bit since that book was written, but with a bit of reflavoring it will work. I assume you intend for it to only be used for creatures that cannot undergo "normal" ceremorphosis?
