Changing CR for loss of INT [Archive] - Wizards Community

This is a silly question, but I have to ask.

I have a colossal red wyrm - that has an INT score of between 2 and 3. He is a big, stupid lizard. Tactics run from... fly over head until you see something, then drop on it and eat it. If you can't whap it with a claw, bite it. If it is too far away to bite it, breathe flames on it. Then, once it doesn't move any more, eat it. It will attack the highest concentration of food first (the two fighters standing side by side, perhaps), then will attack whoever did the most damage in the last round - IF it can identify who did it. The only other attacks it has would be a wing buffet - IF it decides to rear up and make the little mortals get scared, or a crush, which is rare.

The NORMAL dragon would have a CR of 38 - but what should this one be? He has all the hit points, the BAB and spell reduction and stuff, but there are no spells or special abilities that would be used by smarter lizards.

What would this guy's CR be? Since he is stupid, should I reduce the BAB? Please give me something to chew on here. Thanks!!

I would just keep the original cr as is, then impose an ad-hoc xp penalty based on how poorly in fared in combat.

This sort of cr modification is quite difficult to gauge at a glance, IMO. Even when played as a brute, dragons can still be formidable opponents due to their phenomenal physical stats, especially when supported with the proper feats.

Plus, their spellcasting is governed by cha anyways...:P
