Right I know that there was another thread like this in the Other World board but since this doesn’t pertain to Dragonlance I thought it’d be best to post this here. Here’s the deal, we have recently been preparing for major event in campaign that will be similar to the Rage in The Year of the Rogue Dragons in which we will be using something similar if not exactly like the King Killer Star.

Anyway somewhere along the line a couple of us got to thinking that maybe this would be a good chance to introduce a few dragon themed monsters we haven’t used for one reason or another; namely the Dragonspawn and Draconians. Whereas introducing the Dragonspawn are easy enough there has been a slight debate on how were going to introduce the Draconians into our campaign since we don’t play Dragonlance, eventually we settled on making them outsiders from an alternate material plane. However only really allows for the existence of the standard and noble Draconians in our campaign, naturally we want to go one step further and introducing a new set of Draconians.

Seeing as gem dragons have played a pivotal role in our campaign we decided to use them as the catalyst for the new breed we were making which we named the Chaos Draconians since a majority of the Gem Dragons are lawful (though we could have just as easily used that for the Ferrous Dragons if we ever make them). Seeing as these are going to be a new species altogether were not exactly sure we want them to appear with original batch of Draconians.

Since one of the key players in our world is a somewhat eccentric emerald dragon we’ve toyed with the idea of having him create them in response to the coming arrival of the Draconians by using a series of spells (Wish), rituals (Draconian Ritual), and psionics (most notably Reality Revision) to create the Chaos Draconians.

Our major problem however has been determining what the overall stats and abilities for them will be or what classes will be best for them, naturally certain subspecies will be stronger than others with Topaz being the strongest (with the possible exception of the Obsidian) and Crystal being the weakest and they will of course have to have Draconian traits (I.E. death throes and Inspired by Gem Dragon). So far we haven’t made much progress, in fact we’ve yet to completely finish one of yet to be named subspecies.

Chaos Draconian (Emerald)
Death Throes: Burst of Kinetic energy accompanied by a keening scream that deafens opponents.
+2 foresight to AC, psychic byproduct of their Clairsentience powers.
Favored Class: Lurk/Rogue/Psion (Seer or Nomad)
Purpose: Still working on it but possibly Spies, Assassins, or Seers

This is about as far as we’ve gotten so any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I want this to be a competent race but at the moment it needs some serious work if it’s going to be up to par with anything. We still need to determine what the hierarchy is going to be amongst them too since none of us are quite sure which dragons are comparable to their full blooded patriarchs. Anyone think they can help?

The 2E hierarchy of gem dragons is as follows, highest to lowest: amethyst, sapphire, emerald, topaz, crystal. Which, if you ask me, doesn't match the RW values of the gems they're named after.

The 3E hierarchy is now: topaz, emerald/amethyst (these two are seemingly interchangeable), sapphire, crystal. For me, it's a bit messed up.

I think we'll go with either the 3rd edition heirarchy or at the very least a modified version of it since the two gem dragons we have running around are an emerald and amethyst that used to be PC's (now NPC) and our DM doesn't want to stir up anymore conflict between their original players. Though naturally if you go by the value of the gem Emerald or Sapphire should be the most powerful.

There's still a debate on which breed will take the place of the Sivak's and Lightning Draconian's since none of us are sure which is stronger, amethyst or emerald.

Of course since it is an emerald dragon thats making them naturally he'll try to augment the later to give them a better advantage.
