| savant_warlord1301-26-06, 04:41 PM | I have an idea to make creatures with the chaotic or lawful subtype more chaotic or lawful When determining the hit points of your creatures, roll the dice as follows Lawful subtype- all average HD Chaotic subtype- roll randomly for each HD Neither subtype- half HD are average, half are rolled randomly P.S. Should this go on the Deities and the Planes boards? It applies mostly to outsiders, so I thought that might cover the planes, but I decided to ask first. |

I mean, facing 12 minors demon, all the same race, with some of them having 4 HP and some of them having 18 HP could be quite confusing, while facing 12 minors devils with each 12 HP could become repetitive. But for a creature with many HD, in the long run, the chaotic monster will end with an equal amount of HD than the lawful one. |

I think when he says "chaotic/lawful" crteatures, he doesn't just mean creatures with the appropriate alignments, but more creatures hailing from planes associated with the appropriate type. Things like Inevitables or Slaad. I like the upsized HD-1 idea. It increases the randomness of it by making your chances of getting any one rolled number that much less (i.e. d6 vs. d4 is a 1-in-6 chance, vs.1-in-4) and subtracting the one makes it possible to get 0. For lawful do the exact opposite, decrease the hit die size by one and add 1 to the result. So you get less randomness (1-in-4 vs. 1-in-6) and the smaller HD is countered by the fact you can't get less than 2. |

As for creatures with neither subtype, this variant will give them only a small amount of variability. |
