| Hapycamper04-13-07, 05:30 PM | I have a friend who wants an earth elemental cohort... there are some nice precedents to figure out how that would work (Dragon Cohort feat, stuff in Exalted Deeds & Draconomicon, etc...) However, the main problem is to find an ECL for an elemental... The monster manual lists them all as having "-" for level adjustments... Anyone have a reference for, or a decent opinion on how to find an ECL for a small, medium, and large Earth Elemental?... What follows is what I made up trying to just fake it... CR Elemental level adjustment? 1 Small +2 2HD so ECL is 4 3 Medium +3 4HD so ECL is 7 5 Large +4 8HD so ECL is 12 What do people think? My own opinion is that those ECL might be just a tad low, but I'm not sure... |
| Nathreet04-13-07, 05:35 PM | In this and similar situations, always find a similar monster/item/etc. and figure it out from there. The main problem with such creatures is that it doesn't look like they can hold a weapon, etc. That and other reasons of practicality are probably why there's no LA given. |

I see how you got the ECL 8 by removing the Thomil template off the medium earth elemental/Thomil. Very cool. The SS progression tables? ... ah Savage Species. I don't have that one, is ECL 8 too high or too low according to that progression? |

Not all the creatures given an LA in Savage Species have a Savage Progression made out for them. The tables in the front of the book (among them the one on page 20) lists LAs for lots of other creatures, including both Small and Medium Earth Elemental, as I listed above :) |
