Well, I decided that my game needed really little dogs, and so I made a stat block to represent the smaller breeds of dog, such as the Jack Russel [aka Parsons Russel] Terrier, Cairn Terrier, Papillon, and yes, the beloved Chihuahua.

In terms of stats, I based it on the Small Dog, but compared to the cat, which is Tiny.

Hit Dice: 1/2 d8 [2hp]
Initiative: +2
Speed: 30 ft. (6 squares)
Armor Class: 14 (+2 Size, +2 Dex), touch 14, flat 12
Base Attack/Grapple: +0/-11
Attack: Bite +4 (1d3-3)
Full Attack: Bite +4 (1d3-3)
Space/Reach: 2-1/2 ft. / 0 ft.
Special Attacks: -
Special Qualities: Low-light Vision, Scent
Saves: Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +1
Abilities: Str 4, Dex 15, Con 11, Int 2, Wis 12, Cha 6
Skills: Jump +2, Listen +4, Spot +4, Survival +2*
Feats: Alertness, Weapon Finesse
Environment: Temperate plains
Organization: Domesticated or Solitary
Challenge Rating: 1/4

The statistics presented here are meant to represent a miniature or toy dog breed anywhere up to 20 pounds, such as the Chihuahua, Pomerian, most Terriers and many other breeds. Most of these animals have been carefully bred to be so small, and any wild encounters are probably lost pets.

Combat
The Toy Dog makes a better watch dog than guard dog, but they will likely bite if harrassed or frightened. Many breeds become very attatched and defensive of their owners, and exhibit territorial behaviour around strangers.
Skills: Toy Dogs have a +4 racial bonus to jump checks. *Toy Dogs have a +4 racial bonus to Survival checks when tracking by scent.
Note: A spellcaster may chose a Toy Dog as his or her familiar at 1st level or higher. A Toy Dog's master gains a +3 bonus to Listen checks.

Wouldn't their fur burn off. Come to think of it, wouldn't they burn up entirely?

Anyway, it looks good, but I'd up the Cha. Those cute little dogs are just soooo irresistable!

CHA 6 is plenty, between the yapping and pathetic growls, I'd like to give them a fly speed with my Boots of punting and Flinging. :smirk:

Yeah, I didn't want to raise their Cha any higher than the Cha of the Small Dog. I've always seen Charisma as a mental stat - its how well you know yourself, how you present yourself. These dogs really don't know they're small [especially Miniature Dobermans, if you've ever met one] and are mentally the same as larger dogs.

Also, I didn't want to raise their Cha higher than a Cat's. Cats have a 7, so I felt 6 was fair.

10-19-03, 08:35 AM Hmm. What dogs really fit into the small dog category anymore then? The small dog was the ankle biting footballs. Riding dogs were like rottis and great danes.

I remember there was one chihuahua that lived next door and whenever I came near the thing would leap up and down at the screen door, opening and shutting the steel-trap like head that accounted for 65% of its body mass. I personally think that you might want to consider making some dogs diminutive (which is the 6inch to 1foot range), and saying that the chihuahuas get a +5 bonus to jump checks.

Warped perceptions? ^_^ Canibis isn't dog food, even if it sounds like it. Dogs are very perceptive - they know who's who, often know what you want, and are generally way more alert than a human being. They're stupid as hell [int 2] and can't comprehend complex things, but they're very alert and aware.

The Small Dog and Cat stats both have Wis 12. I felt no need to change them.

Sounds like my neighbor's dogs(2) trying to get killed by my dogs(2). My little dog is tough and experienced and nearly killed one of them by bitting it's neck. The dogs still come. they have no Wis what so ever, and they have bad temperment. Any mental score above one on them is a shame to all dogs.

From your post it would seem that Intimidate +15 or so would be in order...
There is a dog size between chihuaha and rottweiler. Schnauzer (the standard, not miniature or riesen). The ordinary poodle. The basset hound (+2 deflection bonus from flapping ears...), and so on.
