The ability description never says that this ability doesn't stack with simliar affects, such as, for instance, the extra action granted by haste. How would you all rule? Would you say then that a choker can be effectively hasted by a spell and so get two extra attacks, one for haste and one for quickness? Or would you rule that even though the stacking isn't specifically addressed in the ability descripiton, common sense and tradtional stacking analysis prevail, making quickness + haste redundant? |
| Greyman12-01-03, 08:10 AM | I would think that you were playing by 3.0 rules since haste does not grant an extra action in 3.5, except that the Chocker did not have Quickness (Su) in 3.0, it had Haste (Su). However, the Choker's supernatural ability still works the same whatever the name. (Personally, I think that's an oversight, but anyway....) Spells, or spell-like abilities, which produce similar effect do not stack. I'd extend this to supernatural and extraordinary abilities too, as it's consistant with the intent of the rules. So, in 3.0, the haste spell and Chocker's Haste ability do not stack when they produce similar effects (an extra partial action), though a hasted chocker does benefit from the spell's other effects (the +4 haste bonus to, and the x1.5 enhancement bonus to Jump). In 3.5, haste and Quickness stack completely, because they have completely different effects. The Chocker would get an extra standard or move action and it could either get an extra attack with the full attack action, or it could move at 40' (or climb at 20'). If it uses the extra move action to move, it uses the hasted speed. It also gains the +1 to attack rolls and +1 dodge bonus to AC |

It's in the same book that gives offers the feat Dragon Breath, which gives you the same effect as a age catagory 12 dragon, and offers a feat which allows you to change shape just like a doppelganger. Nah, all kidding aside, Quickness (Su) is an ability that belongs solely to the 3.5 Choker (at least as far as I know), so there is no way to gain it as a feat. Well, maybe some Epic feat. |

I did not realise that it actually meant haste as a Su. |
