| Khalarak Ironclaw12-12-05, 11:55 AM | 3d8 HD, no LA. pg. 34 MM 3.5 |
| Spike_Fightwicky12-12-05, 02:17 PM | If the monster has no modifier in the "Level Adjustment" field, it means that the monster is not typically supposed to be a PC for some reason (appropriateness and balance seem to be the culprits most of the time). From the SRD: Monsters suitable for play have a level adjustment given in their statistics. Since the Choker doesn't have a given level adjustment, it's not recommended as a PC. The thing's stats and natural abilities should warrant high enough LA, especially the Quickness special quality. |
| Traevanon12-12-05, 02:51 PM | I put them at probably LA+4 LA +2 is a Drow... Chokers are clearly better than Drow LA +6 is a War Troll... a Choker is clearly not as good as a War Troll Ya +4 sounds right to me |
| Endarire12-12-05, 02:56 PM | According to this (http://www.webspawner.com/users/enbsoldarin/), PHB dwarves, with some adjucation, have higher LA than drow. -EE |

Due to the choker having a low number of racial HD, it will have a higher LA(having less HD to cancel this out). This does not mean it is equivalent to power to a wartroll, since a choker with class lvs might stand up to 1. So there you go, 3HD + 6LA for an ECL of 9. |
| Wyrd Bearer12-12-05, 11:24 PM | Yes, the extra partial action a round gives the chokers an "Unplayable" status in my games, mostly because if I was playing a divine spellcasting character, I'd have no reason not to want to be a choker, other than the normal roleplaying problems of being an icky little creature that no sane bartender or innkeeper would give service to. I'm fine with people shapechanging into one, because at that high of level multiple spells a round for a limited time isn't that big of a deal. However, a choker does have some nice abilities going for it that makes it a pain to balance at lower levels. Str +6, Dex +4, Con +2, Int -6, Wis +2, Cha -4. +4 natural armour, small size bonuses and penalties (the penalties for less reach and grappling are negated by...) 10 ft. natural reach, +4 to grapple, 2 natural attacks, Improved Initiative as a bonus feat, darkvision, aberration type (immunity to several spells, some of which harmful), a natural climb speed and a bonus to climb checks. In addition to being able to double move and attack, move and double attack, move attack and cast a spell or move and cast 2 spells a round... Yes, I'm going to agree that +6 is a fair and proper LA, perhaps even a deal considering what you get. The intelligence and charisma penalties make me cringe just looking at it, I know I'd never play one. |
