I've noticed that there are various 'chosen of' or 'champion of' titles on some NPCs. For instance the Chosen of Mystra. Or the (what I can only assume is) the Champion of Talos, etc.

I know there's a "Chosen" template, but I've only seen it applied to Mystra's folks. Is there a template out there that is a 'chosen' template? If so, what's the ECL? Would it be along the same lines as the Chosen of Mystra template, or would there be other special abilities instead? Thanks in advance.

Mystra is the Keeper of the Weave, who's very existence makes magic possible. Thus, due to her "status," she can grant this "template" to powerful mortal spellcasters (like Elminster and the Simbul), giving her powerful followers. They are, in effect, her proxies. These mortals are VERY rare - just over a dozen are currently alive on Toril.

Other gods can grant power to minions, but they aren't exactly important enough to create such champions. Thus, no official templates exist for their proxies. Every proxy of Ilmater (for instance) is different, and has his or her own strengths.

okay. I was wondering because I saw (in the FRCS book) that there was a lizardfolk warrior named Redeye who was a Bbn 11/Chm 5 of Talos (p. 224, top right column). That's not any PrC that I'm aware of. And I remember somewhere seeing a 'Chosen' Template. But for the life of me I can't remember. So I was hoping someone else out there would know. And I hope there's more 'Chosen' type things than just the one for Mystra. Or at least a guide to making your own.

Thanks for the info, though.

Chm is the abbreviation for the Divine Champion PrC(FRCS pg 42). The abbreviations are explained on page 7 I believe.

Fzoul Chembryl has some of the benefits for being the Chosen of Bane listed, but there may be some hidden things in there, like stat adjustments, that I haven't noticed.

Couldn't one of these "Chosen" people be reverse-engineered to figure out what the benefits are? I ask because this idea of a "Chosen" template is very appealing to me.

I don't have any of the source books that have the individuals mentioned so I guess I'm just asking for some help in creating a template. Any takers?

Thanks ahead.

the stats for the Chosen of Mystra are located in the FRCS book. I don't know how much I could actually mention of it without breaking board rules, but the +10 to Con alone must be worth +2/+3. I guess I could always figure out the LA and then change some abilities around to suit other deities.

There iss ONE "chosen" template ALL deities can give, but is very rarely used. It is the "Proxy" template from D&Dg, and it gives the creature one divine rank from his/her deity. Extremely powerful stuff.

Deities and Demigods. Look in the beginning of the book; it describes one proxy and discusses the method for imbuing one.

As for Chosen templates: Only two, both for FR deities, have been published (the Chosen of Bane is in Lords of Darkness, IIRC). There are other deific Chosen in the Realms, including ones that I've probably missed:

-Chosen of Deneir (Cadderly)
-Chosen of Umberlee (Slarkrethel)
-Chosen of Silvanus, Eldath, and Mielikki (the Emerald Enclave)
-Chosen of Azuth (referred to obliquely in the Magister entry in Magic of Faerun)

IMHO, throwing Chosen all over the place is a bit silly. IMC, there's a rationalization for the Banite and Mystran Chosen, but not for any others.

As for what the template "should" look like:

-A hefty stat boost or two
-A selection of spell-like abilities
-Immunity to certain effects (mind-affecting, death, disintegrate, disease, and/or poison all make sense for different Chosen)
-A single really nifty power: the Mystrans have silver fire and Fzoul has his summon death tyrant SLA

what kind of LA do you think such a template would have if it had similer levels of power to the Chosen of Mystra (but potentially different abilities).

Add the following chosen to this list:

-Chosen of Cyric (Malik el Sami yn Nasser)
-Chosen of Bane (Fzoul Chembryl )
-Chosen of Mask (Avner of Hartsvale)
-Chosen of Talona (The Rotting Man)
-Chosen of Ubtao (Alisanda Rayburton, Dhlamass Rayburton, Ras Nsi, Fipya, Kwalu, Mainu, Ossaw I)
-Chosen of Eilistraee (Qilue Veladorn)
-Chosen of Labelas Enoreth (Vartan Hai Sylver)

Except for The Rotting Man, they all already existed in 2e. And even in 2e, there weren't official templates for them, the only ones that had official templates in 2e, are the same who now have them in 3e. All others powers have never been revealed

You can find the nitty gritty on the Chosen of Deneir if you follow this link (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=books/fr/deneir).

There are currently only three official Chosen templates - the Chosen of Mystra (FRCS), the Chosen of Bane (Faiths & Pantheons), and the Chosen of Deneir (WotC site, link in ephealy's post). You can find plenty of fan-made ones over on the FR boards here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=176507) if you're interested.

Since the idea of listing the Chosen got brought up, there is a complete list of known Chosen over on the FR boards in the Kuje's Misc Answers thread. For convenience of those interested, I'll post it here in an sblock (sorted by deity name).

As for the LA of such templates, theres a reason none are given in the official ones: they're not designed for PC use. If you really want to use them, I'd err on the high side - LA+8 has been suggested for the Chosen of Mystra on the FR boards, though some have gone as low as +6 or as high as +10.
