| Arakano07-12-04, 11:00 AM | Alright, Iīd like to have some opinions on a new template I made: Chosen of the Fey Background Info: In my next campaign, there will be a certain sheltered region where fey creatures can live safely and undisturbed. Their safety is ensured by a powerful protector, a mortal being imbued with the strength of nature and blessed by the fey and their deities. A future Chosen often feels the call of the fey early in her life as a certain longing, growing stronger with the years. Others feel the calling later in life. Finally, when the time is ripe, the future chosen sets off for his destination, where she takes her place as champion of the fey. There is only one chosen at a time, a new one being named after the last one died. Preq.: This template can be applied to any humanoid of good alignment with at least 5 levels (as the fey choose only someone with enough experience to protect them ). The being must be able to have an animal companion as a class feature. Effects: - abilities: +2 dex, +2 con, +2 int, +4 wis, +4 cha. - Perfect body: The chosen of the fey is immune to all diseases and poisons. Additionally, the chosen of the fey does not suffer any negative effects of aging. Benefits still apply, and the chosen one dies when his time has come. - DR 5/cold iron - Skill boni: + 4 on listen, spot, hide and move silently checks. - Resistence of 5 vs. fire, cold, acid, electricity and sonic damage - Low-Light vision - Spell resistance of 11 + 1/level - Immune against all mind influencing magic, paralyses and sleep effects. - The chosen one has no need for sleep or nourishment. He still has to rest before he can cast new spells. If she desires, the chosen can eat, drink and sleep, she simply has no need to. - Immune against all spell-like effects of fey. - +5 Luck bonus on AC - Spell like abilities: The chosen of the fey can cast "detect evil" and "detect thoughts" at will, and "dispel magic" once per day. - companion: The chosen gets an unicorn as an loyal animal companion. This companion replaces any animal companion the chosen one might have had. - CR: base creature +3 (Of course, there are even more benefits, which are not that obvious: All good and neutral aligned fey see the chosen one as their ally, and even as their superior in times of trouble (the chosen might rally the fey against any invasion of their land she can not overcome alone). They award her with the greatest respect and affection, aiding her as well as they can). Code of Conduct: The chosen of the fey might never hurt a fey intentionally, except for evil fey, and even then only in defense of the fey, their land or herself. He can also not despoil the land of the fey, or willingly commit an evil act. If the chosen breaks her code, she loses all of her powers, and all fey shun her. |

| Wickerbull07-13-04, 01:30 PM | So, this is intended to be an NPC, right? This would be way too powerful for a PC. I like the idea, but there's something you can do instead of saying that the chosen do need to eat or sleep, and don't age. Give them the Deathless type, which is found in the Book of Exalted Deeds. Then just give them fey traits. Much simpler. This could work well as a prestige class or maybe a base class. |
| Arakano07-14-04, 12:19 PM | Yes, itīs supposed to be an NPC-only template. Therefore, no LA. And besides, protecting the fey lands all of the time does offer many oppurtunities to gain experience - but few to truly "adventure". I donīt own BoED, btw. |
| Klaus van der Kroft07-14-04, 12:42 PM | It is very interesting. It is also powerful, specially since it has a lot of immunities. Perhaps the CR adjustment should be +4 (although the effects are only really noticeable on low level creatures). About the Deathless (was it not Lifeless? My memory fails and the book is at the other side of the room, too far away for me to stand up and pick it up), it would bring some effects that I believe are not fitting (such as the no Constitution score). Besides, flavor-wise, it would be incorrect. |
