No, I mean if we look at the metallic tree, we see that Silvers enjoy spending lots of time in humanoid form, romping around and doing humanoid things. I was curious if there was a chromatic with the same tendancy, or at least one similar to it.

If a chromatic were to do something like that, it would likely be for the purpose of dominating them. With that said, none have an innate ability to do so (though all could eventually acquire the spell to accomplish this). Also, none of them have the appearent tendency to do it, so I'd say no.

I would have to say the green. Greens are cunning, belligerantly evil, and magnificent liars. I could definitely see a green infiltrating an elven community to bring ruin to it out of pure spite. Blues are a little too vain, reds too arrogant, whites too stupid, and blacks...well, blacks would be the second most likely to spend time as a humanoid, but probably only to steal something, like a secret.

Yup, in that order:

1)Green
2)Black
3)Blue & Red
4)White

The biggest problem for chromatic dragons is that they have no daily use of the alternate form ability, at any age category. To go hang around humanoids like all the metallics do, they would need the aid of a magic item (a phylactery of change, for instance) or be at the appropriate level to cast polymorph self. Even then, it would be difficult to maintain the ruse of humanoid form for long.

Whites are the least intelligent of all chromatic dragons, and at their younger age groups, lines of distinction have been drawn between them and simple, feral animals. Blacks are often secluded within their swamps, where they have interaction with lizardfolk and other reptilian humanoids, but they rarely have any interaction with the other humanoid races. Blues often lair in deserts, which do not have ample humanoid settlements. You know, aside from the standard snatch-and-chomp.

I would have to say that Greens and Reds are your best bet. Greens maintain forest havens, which are often populated with elves, gnomes, druids, giants, gnolls, and many other races to interact with. Reds reside near heat sources, but it is said that they often come into contact with silvers due to their preference for the same climate/terrain. It woulds make sense then that reds often enjoy interspersing with humanoid society, at least as much as any chromatic would. Reds also have that whole Death Pact of Doom with the githyanki, and thats loads of interaction between a near humanoid race.

On a side note, Deep Dragons (Monsters of Faerun, Drow of the Underdark) are closely associated with the drow, often living near dark elf settlements. They also take drow form a lot.

Keep in mind any dragon CAN interact with humanoid society. Their motives are just discerned by their alignment.

I disagree.

As Blue and Green dragons are LE, they both would both be much better off for extended periods of time as humanoids, as they tend to respect the laws of the land.

Of the two, I would say Green is more likely in forested areas (which, I would guess, dominate the landscape), and Blue more likely in desert areas, with essentially a 50-50 split in territories not near either.

Of the CE dragons, Black seems to be the most suited--it would not try to kill and eat you as soon as humanly, er, dragonly possible (as White would), nor would it try to cow you into submission as fast as the Red.

Thus, I rank them:
1) Green
2) Blue
3) Black
4) Red
5) White

One thing to note, Silvers and Golds have the Alternate Form (Su) ability.
No Chromatics have this ability.
If they did I'd say Reds would be most likely followed by Greens.

A Red's fiery nature would enjoy the activity that takes place in a city. Their other magical abilities (namely suggestion) would be well suited to helping them set themselves up as a some form of "underground" leader.

Greens enjoy their woodlands, (2ed MM states how they enjoy the smell of the forest) and may do the same but in smaller "outpost" cities. They would likely come into conflict with any big scale logging efforts of the towns they are in.
Greens also enjoy similar SLAs (suggestion and dominate).

I was about to reply with a green when I read this. Greens love intrigue, and what better way to do so than to assume humanoid form and mix it up with those pesky elves and humans to see what really goes on there?

In fact, one infamous Faerūnian green, Claugiyliamatar "Old Gnawbone" (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/wn/20020227a), dreams of assuming human form on a long-term basis to join in the court intrigues of Waterdeep. And in the issue of Dragon that has the ferrous dragons, there's a LN green dragon who spends much time in elven form and visits a community of forest elves.

All are thanked for their replies. I was leaning towards Green as it was, and most of you confirmed my logic.
