I took that to mean that the Grapple check automatically succeeds. Is this correct? #2. the text on them also says that their adhesive cannot be broken as long as the creature is alive. Does this mean that they do not need to maintain the grapple and that a victim cannot make an opposed check or escape artist check to break/escape from the grapple? |

They can still try, but will automatically fail. The mimic has no ability that lets it act as if it was not grappling (which is an ability of Improved Grab by taking -20 to grapple checks, which it does not have), thus still suffers the limitations of grappling- it just never has to oppose a roll to escape. They still need to make grapple checks to perform maneuvers and such. With a rogue in the party, the mimic will regret giving up its Dex to AC. |
