| Paragon_Squirrel12-11-03, 10:18 PM | Okay, so I was thinking of one mage of mine, and making plans to build an army of golems, homonculi, and shield guardians, I realized- In the pre-reqs for constructing a shield guardian you must know both the spells Limited Wish and Shield Other, to name a few, but Limited Wish is a sorceror/wizard spell, whereas Shield Other is purely a paladin or clerix spell. So, would the only characters applicable to the rituals described in the 3.0 MM be (a) Mystic Theruge(s)? Secondly, it says the wearer of the amulet can activate Shield Other However, it is unclear how much time it takes. I would assume it is command-word activated, and therefore a standard action that provokes AoO, but for certainty's sake, I want to be sure. Furthermore, for all do-it-yourself constructs that have advancement in hit dice, can you construct one with more starting hit dice for a relatively increased GP or XP cost? It would make sense, surely, to be able to construct a larger iron golem. However, I strongly dislike the idea of a stone golem mysteriously getting larger, more durable, and stronger for each goblin it kills. |
| Vanigo12-12-03, 12:48 AM | I'd say that a wizard and a cleric can work together to make a shield guardian, just like they can to make a magic item. As for advanced constructs, I'd definetly say they had to be built that way. I have no idea how much it would cost to do so, though. |

I wouldn't mind hearing houserulings on the HD increase, but if you've seen any official material on in, I'd be very grateful if you could tell me where you've seen it. |
