| Aedgwyn05-11-04, 08:03 AM | I have a friend who plays Dungeons and Dragons with a group of boys in the mornings at my school cafeteria. The "Dungeon Master" says I cannot play until their next adventure. He says that I must create a character. I have, but here is all I could come up with so far: Character Name: Aedgwyn Race: Half-Human (Half-Dragon) Height: 5' 0" Weight: 99 Lbs. Gender: Male Eyes: Violet Hair: Platinum Skin: White Age: 12 years old (a child) Weapons: a) Morningstar b) Longshort Bow c) Firestone Languages Spoken: a) Common b) Draconic c) Goblin The only problem is that I do not know what classes would be available to him. I want to him to use magic, but one player, Kyrwen, and another, Kershwin, are already sorcerers and another, Barathian, is a cleric. I want to be something different, but I have no clue what to be. The version is the 3rd Edition Dungeons and Dragons (it's not Advanced Dungeons and Dragons). Could somebody help? Also, he is supposed to be the son of Io, the Dragon god (that's what my friend suggested). |

There are druids who are spell casters of nature and you'll even get to turn into an animal. Also with it later on you can take the feat Dragon shape and use your wildshape to turn into a dragon. Paladins are crusaders of good who can cast spells at later lvls, however (unless he has and allows Unearthed arcana) Paladins must be lawful good. Also they don't get nearly as many spells as straight spell casters but they make up for it with good melee abilities, and cool extra ablities Later on you could even become Platinum knight for some cool stuff. Finally there are rangers which are hunters like a paladin in that it takes them longer, and they get fewer spells, but they get favored enemies and other cool things as well. I Hope this helps you out make sure to post what you decided on. k:D |
| Murr-Quan Lord #205-12-04, 12:20 AM | Hmm, let's see ... Firstly, I'd recommend possibly tweaking the backstory a little bit. The son of a deity would himself be a quasi-deity, and therefore insanely powerful. Not to mention, Io himself is the "God of Dragons," to be sure, but that seems to be about all there is to him. Half-dragons are very powerful too, though. It's fortunate that your DM is allowing you to play one. As far as deities are concerned, you might instead want to say that your character is strongly tied to one or the other. Perhaps your draconic parent is a cleric or worshipper of one of them. Bahamut is the lord of all good-aligned dragons, and is a common choice for good-aligned players. Your char may even have had a religious experience of some kind, which linked him somehow with a deity. The Paladin class often receives its powers in this way. They tend to be sort of a fighter class, with spells and divine powers instead of feats ... children are a lot weaker than adults, but a half-dragon child would be stronger than most humans on average. He might make for a surprisingly fierce combatant. Because of your high Strength bonus, you may want to consider playing a Paladin, Ranger or even Fighter, perhaps multiclassing with something else. Wizards have to keep and maintain their spellbook instead of just casting spells on the fly. They're something to consider, though. If you do play a wizard, play a specialist, as they get to throw out certain kinds of spells they don't like in exchange for more spells per day. Druids are spellcasters, although their spells aren't as strong as those of your friends' classes. Perhaps their main power is in their Wild Shape ability. They get more powerful weapons and armor than wizards or sorcerers, but they're also required by their oaths to use only certain kinds of gear and to honor nature at all times. I might almost suggest playing a Favored Soul, although you probably don't have access to the Miniatures Handbook. (I don't either, for that matter.) If you're really into dragons you may want to consider buying the Draconomicon, as it lists a whole bunch of feats and prestige classes for dragon-oriented player characters, as well as some entertaining info on dragons themselves. |
