Hiya everyone, i was hoping to have a very large 60 foot tall (Gargantuan) monster as a late adversary in my first attempt at DMing. I plan on having an near-invincible construct creature that can only be slain by a player climing ontop of it and inserting a key into a contraption on the back of its head.

Are there any particular rules for climing ontop of and purforming un-standard actions (such as this) on larger creatures?

thankyou!

Well, IIRC it is either a climb check of DC alot, or a Grapple check, which the opponent gets like -20 to because he isnt using any hands. A Grapple while using one hand is at -10, so -20 sounds about correct. That is how we did it when the PCs fought a Warforged Titan, and the samurai climbed and started attacking.

The Climb Aboard Tactic of the Giantbane Tactical Feat (CW) is DC 10 to climb a target 2 sizes larger (as a Free action!). The creature can shake off a climber with an opposed Grapple check vs the Climb check.

thanks guys :) I was thinking that a climb check by the climber vs a grapple check by the monster sounds good.

The monster i have planned will be a kind of giant mechanical ape like cnstruct with hammers for arms. I want it to be clumsy and slow thinking and introduce it to the players by having it breaking through a wall while they are at the bottom of a large funnel like structure. They will have to run up a spiral starecase that wraps around the inside of the chamber untill they are at the height at which they can mount the monsters shoulders and climb atop its head where they can shut it down. :)

i plan to have it smashing parts of the terrain around the players as they try to make it up the staircase. Which should be fun and scare the boluks off them.
