| ShadowDreamer02-03-04, 04:57 PM | lets say i have a great wyrm shadow dragon. his breath weapon does 8 negative levels on a failed save, lets say this dragon also uses eneverting breath, for an additional 2d4 negative levels. the dragon has the clinging breath feat. the dragon uses its breath weapon, the victim fails, and takes 8 negative levels, plus an additional 4 from eneverting breath. on the next round would the victum take 4 or 6 additional negative levels due to clining assuming he doesnt roll on the ground to scrape it off? basicly, do metabreath spell effects also get carried over with clining breath, or only the base breath? |
| Insanity02-03-04, 05:37 PM | First thought, yes. My immediate question was Clinging Breath a full-round action, which it is not. If so, the dragon could not breath in the same round in order to cast Enervating Breath under normal circumstances. Also all Feats and spells can be used in conjunction normally to my knowledge. |
| Cortex02-06-04, 12:13 PM | When a metamagic feat is applied to a spell it causes its effect based on the initial spell irrespective of other feats. Here we are applying a meta feat and a meta spell to the breath. So I would GUESS that the meta's are independant of each other which would mean that the clinging doesnt make the spell cling, just the normal breath. But thats just a guess. |
| Kayli02-11-04, 06:43 AM | Cortex has it right, Clinging Breath is aplied to the Breath irrispective of the Spell Enervating Breath and So Only applies to the Breath itself and not the spell. This is also true if the Breath Admixture spell is used say a Red using Admixture to add Sonic damage. If the Dragon also uses Clinging Breath then only the fire damage is clinging since the Sonic Damage is from a spell. You raise an intersting question about the rolling about to get rid of the clinging negative energy. I believe that the Negative Energy is only able to "Cling" to you because it is semi-corporial energy, sort of like wisps of smoke form the camp fire that no matter which side you stand on always blows into your face. And as such can be vigorously brushed off. Otherwise you could not apply the Clinging feat to it. Thats my take any way, if you said it was purely energy then clinging doesn't make any sense and is brocken for this particular dragon. |
