Cloud lairs for silver dragons [Archive] - Wizards Community

02-16-04, 11:45 AM Page 53 of the Draconomicon states: "Silver dragons prefer aerial lairs on secluded mountain peaks or amid the clouds themselves. A cloud lair always has en enchanted area with a solid floor for laying eggs and storing treasure."

However, there is no indication as to how this "solid floor" is implemented. Is it a spell that the dragon casts? If so, then what is that spell? I certainly cannot find it anywhere in Draconomicon, and the Monster Manual is equally glib.

Or, is it an innate ability of the silver dragon itself, in which case at what level or age would the dragon acquire the ability to create such things? (For I certainly wouldn't imagine a silver wyrmling to just will such a thing into existance!)

Here is one for giggles:

Cloud Lair (Spell-like) (V, S, M)

Material Component: A sculpture of a silver palace worth at least 500 GP.

This is a spell like ability which draws an attack of opportunity. Casting time is 10 minutes. The dragon in question creates a lair from a targeted cloud. The cloud solidifies and allows the dragon to walk normally and to place solid objects.

The effect has a radius of 100 ft per age catagory and can extend as far up as the radius. A dragon may limit the radius to a smaller size than alloed if desired. Within the volume of effect the dragon may craft any rooms, passegeways and corridors it wishes. These can be a simple or as elaborate as its imagination allows. Once determined these surfaces cannot be changed unless the spell-like ability is used again.

A dragon may only have one claod lair at a time per age catagory.

02-16-04, 09:22 PM Not Too bad, but make the spell permanent. and no more then one at time. What use does a dragon have for 7 Lairs? How would it protect its hoard when divied up so much? Also the Dragon Probably shouldn't get to use it until at least Juvenile age cat cause that is when most dragons really start to look for lairs of of a more Permanent Nature.
