| Jeremiah the Red Sage04-11-04, 12:09 AM | If a cockatrice or medusa turned a person to stone, and two thousand years later some adventurers found this stone person and cast stone to flesh on this person, would that person be alive? Let's say a 15th level fighter in his peak was turned to stone by one of those monsters two thousands years ago. If he was reverted would he still be a 15th level fighter in his peak? Would he still remember all of his old life? Would he know he was turned to stone? |
| fatal error04-11-04, 01:43 AM | I would say yes, but maybe thats just me. |
| Ssussunriyh04-11-04, 01:47 AM | As long as the statue wasn't broken in the interim, then yes, the subject would be restored to his previous state, exactly as he was when the effect first took place. If, for example, an arm got broken off the petrified form, then the victim would have a severed arm when restored to flesh. Other than that though, no expiration date, indefinite shelf life. As far as his being aware of what happened, that's debatable. |
| Jeremiah the Red Sage04-11-04, 01:48 AM | I'm glad someone agrees with my idea. I haven't used it yet, but I think it might be fun. |
| Ogre4Hire04-11-04, 12:05 PM | After two thousand years, he'd probably be so badly eroded that it'd take a Regeneration spell cast immediately after the Stone to Flesh to keep him from dieing unless he was sealed up somewhere away from the elements (a dry underground cave, for example). |
| NightScreamer2004-11-04, 12:08 PM | That's actually a cool idea. Nice for an adventure in fact :) |
| Ramses III04-11-04, 02:18 PM | He would not age, but could well be badly eroded, which per flesh to stone translates to physical damage, and if parts were missing... well.... I do not know if this is covered in the rules but i would rule that he would know he was turned to stone. |
| obrysii04-11-04, 08:03 PM | It says in the DMG (at least the 3.0) that they have to keep making will saves (the statues) or loose wisdom...the mind stays active. That could be for something else, though...but I'm sure it's for 'petrification'....could there be a different sort then to stone? |
