kentra 01-10-08, 06:46 PM	Hey everybody, The group I am in recently came across a nest of Cockatrice and while we were successful in creaming them, an interesting question came up. I am playing a Half-Ogre with DR 2\- (now 3 with my armour crystal) and as such, it is near impossible for the Cockatrice to do any damage to me unless it crits. The issue arose around whether or not I would need to roll for petrification as the thing can't actually hurt me. Using the following statements from the SRD: “Whenever damage reduction completely negates the damage from an attack, it also negates most special effects that accompany the attack, such as injury type poison, a monk’s stunning, and injury type disease. Damage reduction does not negate touch attacks, energy damage dealt along with an attack, or energy drains. Nor does it affect poisons or diseases delivered by inhalation, ingestion, or contact” And this: “Creatures hit by a cockatrice’s bite attack must succeed on a DC 12 Fortitude save or instantly turn to stone. The save DC is Constitution-based. Cockatrices have immunity to the petrification ability of other cockatrices, but other petrification attacks affect them normally.” Now while my DM's rulings are LAW, and I don't dispute his rulings, it is his game (Hello DM :D ), I was just curious as to whether you out there thought I should be affected by the Petrification or not, and reasons why? DR has absolutely no bearing on the cockatrice's petrification; it is not a poison or a disease, but a magical effect that results from being bitten by the creature - without regard to whether or not its (particularly weak) bite actually does any damage or not.

Thanks Dead_Weasel, that is what my DM has also ruled, so I guess (lets call him BOB) BOB just won't go killing sick chickens any more. Might even make him into a vegetarian, or fruitarian. ......Not really.:D
