| GabrielSolemon01-25-04, 06:56 PM | Is it possible for one creature to have both a fire and cold subtype? The reason I am asking is because the Monster of Legend template in the MMII allows you to give the subject creature either of those subtypes. So conceivably if you took a frost giant and made him a Monster of Legend you could give him the fire subtype and he would have immunity to fire and cold. IS THIS POSSIBLE??? Thanks for the help |
| Dr_Draco01-25-04, 07:54 PM | I would say the two abilities cancel eachother out. Remember even though Cold subtype = immune to cold and Fire subtype = immune to fire, Cold also = double damage from fire, and Fire also = double damage from cold. So if they had both templates, the subtypes would cancel out and you'd have a creature that is treated as having neither subtype. That's how'd I'd DM it at least. Don't know anything "official." http://www.geocities.com/flammabledragon/psion.TXT Dr. D http://www.geocities.com/flammabledragon/monk.TXT |
| Lord Tarran01-25-04, 07:55 PM | Actually, I think that the creature would recieve immunity from both. |
| Edymnion01-25-04, 08:42 PM | I rule that they cancel out, but thats me. Total houserule, no valid support from the books what-so-ever that I know of. |
| the_heart01-26-04, 04:32 AM | i am not aware of any official ruling, either. but for what it's worth, i think, if it were me, i would be reluctant to put two opposing subtypes on a creature. and if i did, IMO adding one would over-ride the existing subtype. so, using your example, you'd end up with a frost giant with fire immunity and cold vulnerability. |
