Hi. I'm working on a campaign world that features very few undead, and I thought of using cheap golems in the place of skeletons and zombies. They use souls to animate them, usually of 1st level commoners and other people that evil wizards and the like can capture. There are going to be four types of these golems: Wood (1-3 HD souls), Copper (4-7), Bronze, (8-11), and Sunsteel (12+ HD, sunsteel is a gold/steel alloy with some special properties IMC.)

This is going to be a template, and here's what I'm thinking for the wood one:

Can be applied to humanoids and monstrous humanoids, only.
Type: Change to Construct
HD: Change to d10s.
Attacks: Gains two slam attacks appropriate for its size.
Special attacks: Loses all special attacks.
Special qualities: Loses all original special qualities, gains construct traits, fire vulnerability, and maybe DR 5/slashing or magic.
Abilities: Str +2, Dex -2, no Con or Int score.
Alignment: Always neutral

The souls trapped inside the golem are not in pain or suffering, and are instead in a sort of groggy dream state.

One thing I'm a bit worried about is the +20 hp that medium constructs would get might push up the CR, since many of them are going to be based on 1HD commoners.
