I am working on a little program that will help me, add HDs, character levels and templates to monster and creatures. As the program grow larger, some question have come up.

Some monsters have several combinations for thier full attack, like bite and slams, or bite and wing. etc. Are there any general rules how to combine the diffrent attacks?

Does the advancement ever reach beyond one size larger then the base size (except dragons)?

I'm not sure, but it is always possible (Especially in high level games where there is the odd one out)

Indeed it does. Just take a look at the Assassin Vine. It starts as large, but can be advanced all the way up to Colossal.

Typically, a monster will have a single primary natural attack (like claws for dragons and Trolls) and the rest of the attacks will be secondary attacks. All secondary attacks are done at a -5 attack penalty and use only 1/2 strength modifier to damage. Apart from this rule, almost anything can be mixed/matched. The only exception seems to be slam attacks.

generally, a creature can make one bite attack, one attack per claw or tentacle, one gore attack, one sting attack, or one slam attack

So a Vampire Sahuagin can make a full attack using 2 talons and a bite, or 1 slam. This is how I interperate the above rule. If there's a creature out there that can make both a slam and non-slam attack, let me know what it is.

Aye I see that it does, that forces me to do some changes then. Darn assassin vine ;)

Had no idea that damage bonus always was 1/2 on secondary attacks. That
makes it much more easy to control the damage.

This doesn't mean Slam attacks are the exception - it reads as: one bite attack, OR one attack per claw or tentacle, OR one gore attack, OR one sting attack, or one slam attack.

So you can mix them match any way you want. That rule is speaking about per attackable limb - you can only attack with each limb/mouth/claw/tentacle/horn/fist/other random appendage once per round, but if you have multiple, you can use each one once. Hope that clears it up.

I believe you're right! Makes sense, too. I just misread it. I think I got confused because most creatures that can slam tend to only slam.
