Confused about the Insectile Creature template [Archive] - Wizards Community

10-27-05, 01:31 AM When it says that a creature with the Insectile Creature template gains no additional attacks, does that mean if it’s wielding six weapons (one in each hand) it could only attack with two of them? Personally, this doesn’t make any real sense to me. I mean, what’s the point of having all those extra arms of you can’t attack things with them? I'm sure the arms could have other purposes, but it doesn’t give any bonuses to any skills (although the clime speed most likely comes from the new arms). Am I reading the rule incorrectly, or is this actually how it is?

10-27-05, 01:54 AM That's right. If it helps, try to imagine that the extra 4 limbs aren't anywhere hear as agile or flexible as the main ones, and so while they can assist well enough in climbing, they aren't articulated enough to wield a weapon.

10-27-05, 04:17 PM Exactly. However, those extra limbs aren't completely useless. When climbing a wall, you'll still have some hands free to cast spells with or wield weapons simultaneously. Plus if you're a throwing character, you can hold your extra thrown weapons with your lower limbs and pass them up as needed.

Another fun thing you can do is wield a sword and shield with one set of limbs, a long spear in another set and leave the third set free for spellcasting. One round attack with sword and have a higher AC from the sheild, next round attack 10' away with the longspear and the next round cast a spell, all without needing to swap, drop or draw any weapons.

you can also put an extra hand on any weapon you wield so dual greatswods baby uh-huh

so 1&2-hands g.sword 1
3&4-hands g.sword 2
5&6-hands shield and climb

Yes, you could carry weapons and other staff in the lower hands, but you'd still have to use only your main arms for fighting. So, no 4 attacks!

Otherwise inectile template is pretty cool:
+2Na
+4Dex
+2Wis
wide vision
tremorsense
climb speed
only for +2 LA (or +1 CR)
