It seems to flash in and out of existence as it slowly moves. A high pitched ear-piercing scream of pure madness seems to radiate from it, seemingly collapsing the fabrics of space and time as it moves. Conkakaka CR 8 Always Chaotic Neutral Small Outsider (Chaos) Int +6; Senses Blindsight 120ft, Listen +0, Spot +0 Languages - -------------------------------------------------------- AC 17, Touch 17, Flat-Footed 11, Instability, Armor Modifiers (+6 Dex, +1 Size) HP 22 (5 HD) Immune Immune to Critical, Elemental Resistance 10, Outsider Traits Fort +3, Ref +9, Will +3 Weakness - -------------------------------------------------------- Speed 10ft Fly (Perfect)(2 squares) Space 5ft; Reach 5ft Base Attack +2; Grapple -2 Atk Options Shatter Reality Combat Gear - -------------------------------------------------------- Abilities Str -, Dex 22, Con -, Int -, Wis 11, Cha 17 Feats - Skills - Possessions - Advancement 3-5 HD(Small), 6-10 HD (Medium); Favored Class - -------------------------------------------------------- Instability: The conkakaka is only half in existence and so they continually flash in and out of existence. Because of this any creatures (corporeal or not) have a 50% miss chance to hitting the conkakaka. Shatter Reality (Su) The high pitched whine that the conkakaka emits at all times is actually much more then just an annoying sound. It is the very essence of non-existence leaking out upon the world. All creatures that come within 100ft of the whine can automatically hear it (even if they are deaf or don't possess the ability to hear through some other means). All creatures within this 100ft radius must make a will save (DC15, charisma based), or be instantly destroyed. Their soul is also destroyed, utterly and completely. This prevents resurrection of the person through any spell, even wish. Creatures native to the Far Realms are immune to the effects of Shatter Reality. Conkakaka's were created by gods long forgotten during the early days, before the creation of the planes. They were a failed experiment to create existence, as we know it. The result was a creature that dwelled in both existence and non-existence at the exact time. They were then banished to what was to become the far realms. Some speculate that that the conkakaka were the first attempts to create anything, and the very madness that was torn into the universe in their creation is how the far realms came into existence. That is just a speculation however. In current times the conkakaka can be found floating around the Far Realms. As the creatures of the Far Realms are immune to its existence shattering effects, they cause little harm. Sometimes conkakaka by chance float through a portal and into the material plane. When that does, they chaotically go about rending existence, as we know it. |
| Morphius07-06-06, 05:50 AM | Looks good, although I'd recommend only a 50% miss chance. I can't think of ANYTHING that has higher (although I could be wrong, easily enough.) |
| pileobone07-06-06, 10:25 AM | Immune to ElementsDoes this mean it takes no damage from any kind of elemental energy? If so, that seems way too harsh. I can't think of any outsider, or anything other than a golem with that kind of ability that isn't epic. Instability:Yeah, I agree that this should be 50%. The description itself says "half in existance". Shatter Reality (Su)The DC should be 15. (10 + 2 HD + 3 Cha). This ability seems way too much for a CR 5, Will save vs death every round? With no chance of raising/resurrection? I don't know about all that. A typical 5'th level fighter with a base Will save of +1, is probably looking at a 50/50 chance, maybe worse, of permanent death each and every round. Not to mention the massive miss chance with this thing, and its apparent immunity to energy. And I don't understand why being from the Far Realm makes you immune to manifested non-existance. |
| Morphius07-06-06, 04:40 PM | Yeah, I just saw the immunity and Shatter Reality bit. It was VERY late when I looked at it before. This creature is WAY too powerful for a CR 5; a CR 5 shouldn't even have ONE instant-death ability, let alone one usable every round, on multiple targets, within ONE HUNDRED feet. Its low HD doesn't even begin to compensate for that. The immunity to elements should probably be reduced to a resistance of 10, maybe. And I'd recommend bumping its HD up to at least 5. Just a thought. |
| thasis07-06-06, 05:09 PM | Made some changes, boosted the CR, I'm thinking CR8, though I'm not stuck on the idea. |
| Morphius07-06-06, 05:15 PM | It's a bit better, but the death attack is still way too powerful (and permanent!). I'd suggest its scream deals 2d8 points of damage to all within 50 feet, with no saving throw. The death bit just makes it way too powerful, and the permanent death even more so. Give it +2 natural armor, an Intelligence score of 15 or higher (for tactics), and maybe a couple more HD, and you're set. Also, it'll need a Constitution score, since it's not undead or a construct. I'd suggest about 14. The bonus hit points should help fortify its CR. Again, just my suggestion. Good work. |
