I'm fairly new, and so are my fellow players, and our seasoned veteran of a DM decides to lead us in a discussion about the Tarrasque. He was essentially praising the unstoppable killing machine that is the Tarrasque while we were trying to come up with lucrative schemes to kill it. Long story short, it led to a discussion about Regeneration, and if there is any way to negate its effect.

So my question is this: Is there any way to effectively negate the effects of the Regeneration ability?

Most creatures that have regeneration as a extraordinary ability also list types of damage that regeneration has a problem with, most notably fire and acid in many cases. Also, anything that causes damage of a type that is not measured in HPs, such as ability damage and the like, are unaffected by regeneration. Finally, hp damage from things like dehydration, hunger and suffocation don't regenerate either.

Unfortunately the big T is immune to lethal damage and ability damage/drain. Easiest way (in my opinion) is Overwhelm (PHBII) followed by miracle or wish.

Have a warlock repeatedly pelt it with that polymorph other invocation. Eventually, the Tarrasque has a fail its save (by rolling a natural 1). Have it transform into any creature you want - this will cause it to lose its regeneration, since extraordinary qualities are not carried over.:D

Two words - Massive Damage, I was just looking over it the other night, regeneration doesn't negate that. Other ways you could do it, is cut off it's head (not just slit the throat, completely cut it off) and it'll die of suffocation, or atleast start to.

I thought massive damage applies only to lethal damage...?

Nope, just 50 points of damage is required to trigger the effect, so ergo, I hit really hard, and your regeneration isn't enough to cope with it, so while it may be nonleathal, it's still alot of damage.

The usual interpretation I've heard is that nonlethal "death" just knocks you out (makes your nonlethal damage equal to your current hit points + 10).

It seems quite odd that while non-lethal damage can't kill you, you can apparently be killed by death from massive nonlethal damage...

I checked my books, but apparently, it just states damage, so you might be right. However, I also remembered that the save dc is just a crummy 15, which the tarrasque has no problems making save on a natural 1.

So we are back to square 1...:embarrass

No (not that I know of), but you could send it to, say, Baator or someplace that deals damage per round (not negative energy) or Celestia, or any place with powerful creatures, and it would die (in Celestia and Baator it would kill some less-powerful beings and then a Solar or a Pitfiend would kill it dead). Also, it's head grows back. Or it's body grows back, can't remember which. And yes, non-lethal "death" deals non-lethal damage in the form of max +10 HP.
