| Deep Blue 900006-11-07, 05:10 AM | So I've been going back over my core books to try and understand abilities that had confused me in the past. I was doing fairly well until I got to grappling and remembered constrict. Well, now I'm stumped. So I thought I'd come to the forums and ask the experts. Here are a few questions I was hoping to get an answer to. How much damage is dealt: 1. I am in a grapple and do not have improved grab. If I use the damage opponent option and win, do I deal unarmed+constrict damage? If not, what is my damage? 2. I am in a grapple and have improved grab. If I use the damage opponent option and win, do I deal unarmed+improved grab weapon+constrict damage? If not, what is my damage? Which grapple checks are eligible for constrict damage: 3. Is it triggered by any grapple check I initiate and win (escape a grapple, escape a pin, retrieve a spell component) or only for specific grapple checks (Damage opponent). 4. Can it be triggered when my opponent initiates a grapple check but I succeed? For example if he tries to escape a pin and fails. Thanks. |

You do damage from the weapon used for the improved grab and constriction damage. You are using a natural weapon, which is not an unarmed attack, so you do not add unarmed damage. 3. You do damage only with those grapple options that allow you to do damage, which in the case of constricting would be the damage your opponent option. If you use the attack your opponent option then you are making an actual attack roll to hit with that weapon and not a grapple check. 4. If your opponent is initiating a grapple check then he is making a grapple check in place of one of his attacks, thus it is his turn and he is taking his actions. You do not do damage on your opponent's turn, only on your turn. |
