| Stormborn10-15-03, 10:53 AM | Does anyone know how the Golems in the MM are priced? They don't seem to follow the rules for Wonderous Item Creation, at least not that I can figure. On a related note: the text mentions that golems are powered by trapped elementals, and yet there the Summon Monster spells are not listed as Prereqs. Any ideas? |
| sandskimmer10-15-03, 11:29 AM | Some might argue that trapping the soul of a creature indefinitely to serve as a slave could be considered an evil act as well. But apparently good wizards and clerics can perform this act with a free conscionce without ever casting any summoning spells! |
| wdarkk10-15-03, 11:50 AM | It's entirely possible that they trap the Elemental equivilent of Vermin in there. That's why the only golem I know of powered by something else (Flesh Colossus) has an int score and skills, even in 3.5 (as long as it has its controling ghost inside it, of course). |
| Lankin the Mad Mage10-15-03, 12:01 PM | The pricings are strange, yes. As for the morals of golem creation, there have been LONG discussions about it. The text NEVER mentions elementals. It menions "Elemental SPIRITS", which may be mindless forces of nature, or may be elemental vermin. Either way, the books seem to suggest enslaving them is neither good nor evil. |
