| Sareld11-06-06, 07:32 AM | Oh joy, I have finally reached a level where my character (master thief, ruling a thieves guild) can afford to set up a permanent base of operations. However, I dont command enough warriors to protect my lair, so I have decided to ask my sorceress cohort (Caster level 10 with the Create Wonderous Item feat) to make me some guardians... but I lack the knowledge to pick the right type.¨ The task I enspect the constructs to undertake: My lair is a system of caves deep within a mountain, whos rock is rich on lead heavy minerals, making divinations impossible for spellcasters searching for my lair or trying to locate objects hidden within. To further improve security, I have a permanent Zone of Forbiddance running all over the place to bar out teleporting and interplanar intrusion. The only room which is not protected by the Zone of Forbiddance is the Portal Hall, from where my thieves travel via portals to the cities they operate in. And this is this room I need extra protection for. The constructs i wish to create needs to meet the following demands: - Not metal based. In the event of an attack I will release a pack of rust monsters in the room to disarm my opponents.. them eating my construct guardians would be unfortunate. - Be able to understand fairly complex verbal commands, such as "Attack anyone who enters this room without carrying the arcane mark of Lyssiah (my cohort)" - Is relatively small.. Large size at max. I want to conceal them so that not even my thieves to know about them. The surprise element is vital. - Costs no more than 4000 XP to create.. I dont want my cohort to loose levels. Can this be done at all? The constructs in MMI is too hard to make for her, and the Dread Guard from MMII sucks hard. Ideas? |

| Benedictus11-07-06, 12:45 AM | Have you looked at Stronghold Builders Guide? A Summoning Stone would provide guardians. A Summoning Stone III for 4500Gp would provide 1d3 Fiendish Hyenas. Get two of those. A Summoning Stone V for 13500 gets 1d3 Varguoilles. Set up one or two of these. A Summoning Stone VII for 27500 gets 1d3 Barbazu. Get one of those when your cohort gets higher level. You could also use some Undead. They work cheap. One or two large Zombie Trolls? Especially if you set them up so that a Slow spell trap goes off just before they appear. Maybe better yet is a Hold Monster trap. Anyways there is a Craft Construct feat as well that might be required for you to make your Guardian Construct. It is in the Monster Manual I believe. |
