Are there any good (movement types, natural armour and weapons etc.) creatures with the Construct type with less than or equal to 5 Hit Dice? I'm playing a Warforged, and am looking for any interesting possibilities for Alter Self.

Also, are there any which look more like a human or other humanoid? My campaign is running during the Last War, and I want to avoid any questions over what a Warforged is doing off the battlefields.

Thanks,

I think you can turn into an effigy or animated object. An effigy human would work at a distance and turning into an animated suit of full-plate would really throw off people looking for a spell-casting warforged. Also look at the homonculi for low hd constructs.

Thanks... if I have the Improved Homunculus feat, can I turn into a 5HD, advanced Iron Defender with Sneak Attack and wings? ;)

I think you can only turn into normal forms. I'm not even 100% on the effigy creatures.

What if I built my own 5HD homunculus, and then used alter self to turn into another one?
Actually, looking at the alter self description, it never actually says you have to turn into a form which actually exists... :evillaugh
Also, the Dread Guard from the MMII might be all right- it 'looks like an undead at first sight', so it might also be seful if I have to work in Karrnath... as would a Flesh Golem, but that has too many HD :(

It all ends up as what your DM will allow. I once had a DM that wouldn't let me alter self my dragonwrought kobold into a white wyrmling even though it is obviously allowed by RAW.

But back to your character. By changing into various objects, you could be as steathy as a mimic and choose almost any movement form.

Objects might have additional modes of movement. A wooden object can float and has a swim speed equal to half its land speed. A rope or similar sinuous object has a climb speed equal to half its land speed. A sheetlike object can fly (clumsy maneuverability) at half its normal speed.

This can be a very versitile spell if used properly.

Get the XPH, look up the entries for the astral construct, and knock yourself out.:)
