At any rate, the BBEG is a red dragon who's lost his wings and back legs and gained several levels in wizard. I'm not sure what age category of dragon to make him, though. He needs to be old enough to have significant resources and bend others to his will, but not so old that he is totally out of the PCs ballpark. I've got 6 5th level characters: a rogue1/wiz4, ranger 5, kobold sor 4, barbarian 5, cleric of heironieus 5, and bard 5. They'll (probably) be level six by the time they reach the red dragon. Any ideas? |

I'd say losing hind legs drops a dragon's land speed to 1/3 , and no charging or running. That and the loss of fly speed are worth, roughly a -1 CR (keep in mind, most of the PCs will have to get to the dragon to attack, making mobility less of a problem...and also, dragons have decent ranged attacks. Why wizard levels? Why not sorcerer (which stacks with the dragon's innate sorcerous ability)? For a CR 10, I'd try a juvenile red (CR 10 as written). Depending on how many class levels he has, a young red might be better. |
