Im converting the centaur-kin, and would like any ideas. Should I convert them straight from the book, should I use the tauric creature template, or just use the centaur from the MM, only adjusted to make them more like their dwarf, gnome or halfling counterpart? Since there is no elven counterpart, what kind of animal would make a good elven centaur?

The tauric template is utterly worthless, so go with modifying the centaur.

I'd start with basic centaur stats, then adjust for subrace (such as slower speed and higher Con for a dwonkey, etc).

An elf-centaur? Deer, of course. Graceful woodland quadrupeds. Or elk, but they'd tower over all but the largest standard centaurs (elk are big).

So, modify the centaur instead of converting the centaur-kin straight from the book, and the tauric creature template is right out?

Also, I was looking online and found someone who had the same idea, Talisman, for an elf/deer centaur. Along with an orc centaur-kin and lizard man centaur-kin. (http://www.geocities.com/timessquare/dungeon/3580/Centaur.html)

Why would there be a centaur for each race??? There's already more than enough tauric creatures to fill any niche you could think of. Centaurs fit for humans, dwarves, 1/2 orc being large and strong. Hybsils (Mon of Faerun) fit the halfling and gnomes small stature, and if you want something a bit more exotic you have the Bariaur (MotP) that fills the medium sized niche. Dracotaurs are in the MMIII and cover a lizard centaur.

Actually, I wanted to convert them for a campaign with different worlds, one thats human like ours, one with dwarves and dwarven stylized monsters, the same for elves, gnomes, halflings, goblinoids, giants, orcs and possibly other races also. Kind of like Spelljammer mixed with star trek. So we would have the Federation (Human, elf, dwarf, gnome, and halfling), the Gobulons, and the Kling-orcs.

I think Lunas_Argent wants to update some 2nd Ed creatures, the Centaur-Kin. They consist of dwonkey or dorvesh (dwarf centaur), ha'pony (halfling centaur), gnoat (gnome centaur) and I think there were one or two others.

Dor'vesh, ha'ponies, gnoats, and arguably the pegataur (pegasus/elf thingies). There's also the Zebranaurs, but they were identical to centaur statwise I think.

Also, check out Dracotaurs (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20040905a&page=3) for "kind of" tauric lizardfolks.
