| Mordor1111-16-06, 12:43 PM | Hail everyone. I was looking for copper dragons builds out there. Perused through Draconomicon, but nothing really came out as being strong. Anybody ever did a good melee-focused build for that type of wyrm? Thanks in advance for the help. |
| Orchomenos11-17-06, 11:11 AM | Which level? Or more likely, which age category? Any class level? Usually, feats like Hover, Power Attack, (Great) Cleave, Multiattack, Snatch, Improved Natural Attack and Awesome Blow aren't bad for a melee oriented dragon... |
| Mordor1111-17-06, 12:12 PM | Well basically I was going to bring out the Earth side of the dragon. Perhaps young would be an excellent age category. I didn't want to really go for any specific requests, just for what you guys chose to put out |
| Tequila_Sunrise11-17-06, 10:02 PM | First, a dragon build is a dragon build. As such, they're all the same; whatever makes them simple and effective in combat. Power attack, multiattack, improved multiattack, flight feats, cleave, g-cleave, improved initiative, snatch-related feats, Large and in Charge, Adroit Flyby Attack are all good choices. |

It is not a "build" to post general feats that don't go well together just because they are "good" feats... |
| Sharax11-18-06, 11:13 AM | There are no real dragon builds, they are mostly all the same. The only thing you can custimize are the feats. That's what Tequila_Sunrise said, and that's why he only specified some feats. Granted you can choose different spells, but that's about it. Besides, there aren't any good feat combo's I know of that work especially well with dragons. |
| ank11-24-06, 11:43 PM | I once ran a quite exellent copper dragon campain, but he has since faded from memory. However, given 1-2 days I could (probably) create a build for you. Ill make it within one age catagory of young. I have all three major dragon books (races of the dragon, draconomicon, and dragon magic) so i should be able to whip up a fairly unique one. Ill get back to you on that. Be back soon I hope. |
| ank11-25-06, 03:03 PM | Ok, I've finished it and it took me about 12 hours (granted, i slept for about 10 of those hours). The following is a juvenille copper dragon; it had to be juvenile because young didnt leave enough room for "uniqueness." Egar Vaeri (earth dancer in the common tounge) Medium Dragon Hit dice: 14D12+28 (119) Initiative: +0 Speed: 50ft., fly 170ft. (poor) Armor Class: 23 (+13 natural), touch:10 Flat-footed:23 Base Attack/Grapple: +14/+17 Attack: Bite +17 melee (1D8+3) Full Attack: Bite +17 melee (1D8+3) 2 Claws +17 melee (1D6+1) and two wings +17 melee (1D4+1) Space/Reach: 5ft./5ft. Special Attacks: Breath weapon (line of acid 8D4, cone of flow, save 19), Fatiguing presence. Ability scores: str. 17, dex. 10, con. 15, int. 14, wis. 15, cha 16 (after cloak of charisma +2) Special Qualities: Darkvision 120ft., immune to acid, sleep and paralysis, low-light vision, spider climb. Saves: fort: +11 ref: +9 will: +11 Feats: entangling breath, awaken frightful presence, improved speed, mult-iattack, improved multi-attack CR: 9 Clinging breath: Breath weapon does half of normal damage, but anyone who takes damage from it is entangled for 1D4 rounds and takes 1D6 damage per round. A character may take a full round action to make a ref. check to avoid damage. Rolling on the ground adds a +2 to the reflex but leaves character prone. Spells: 0: prestigitation, cure minor wounds, detect magic, read magic, mending 1: Sticky Floor, Rot of Ages, Mage Armor Sticky Floor: Creates a 10ft. by 10ft. patch of sticky ground. Creatures moving through this area must max a ref. check of 14 or better or be immobilized. They can then break free with a DC15 strength check. Even if successful charecters are still entangles while in the area. Rot of Ages: Range close, 2 round duration, target makes a fortitude save of 14 or becomes sickened. Even if they make this save all other creatures have concealment against that target for duration. Fatiguing Presense: Just like frightning presence, but if they fail the check they are instead fatigued for 2D6 rounds. Tactics: Sticky floor an area, wait for PCs to catch up. When they enter sticky floor use cone of slow (their reflex saves will lower from entanglement) at this point fatiguing presense activiates. Follow with full round attacks or rot of ages until breath returns, then fire an entangling line of acid. Feel free to change tactics as you wish, this is mearly my interpretation. So, tell me what you think. |
