Both the Corpsecrafter feat and the Desecrate spell give an unnamed bonus to the hit points of created undead. A 5th level cleric in my campaign has been creating enhanced undead using the Desecrate spell. But he just advanced to 6th level and decided on the Corpsecrafter feat. Since the bonus in both cases is unnamed, he says that they should stack. A +2 hp bonus to each HD isn't that bad, but a +4 hp bonus may be a bit much. Anyway, just wondering if an official ruling has been made on this, or if anyone who has encountered this in their campaign has any suggestions.

It is up to you. Is corpsecrafter portable desecrate without the costly material component, or is it something else?

The bonuses stack, but desecrate has a limited duration.

It's ambiguously worded too; does it only affect undead still within the 20' radius? I think so, and will assume so, but you could make a case that undead that leave the radius get the bonus until the spell expires. Anyone know if this has been clarified? In any case, the bonuses certainly don't outlast the spell duration.

Note that there has to be a permanent altar in the area for the bonus to be +2, so you can't create undead and get the +2 bonus unless you are defending an existing shine of your own. Taking them on the road makes them leave the 20' radius, and creating them on the road means no permanent altar.

In short, the spell is intended solely for NPC evil priests to use in defending their little shrine which happens to be in the middle of a dungeon.

Thank you for the replies. I was letting the undead keep the hp bonus as a permanent enhancement. I didn't even consider the duration. That will help keep it in line some. It won't stop him from animating an enhanced attack force and attacking immediately, but it will stop the large collection of them he sometimes gathers.

I just picked up Heroes of Horror and saw the Dread Necromancer. After reading that I am just glad the player is not one of those. At 8th level all undead animated by them get the same unnamed +2 hp bonus per HD. Now that could cause problems.
