I want to play a couatl PC in our campaign, and my DM is allowing this, but I'm having some trouble fleshing the character's stats out. I'm not really particular if the stats are AD&D or 3E, but I'd REALLY like some help here... I don't know what class he should be. Wizard? Cleric? Psionicist? A melding of the three? A class of his own?

These would be helpful: wizard spell lists, priest spell lists, psionic power lists, base stats, etc.

Someone help me out here?

Well, first off, this might go a little better in Savage Species.

Secondly, Couatls have a MASSIVE ECL. Huge size, incredible intelligence, flight, poison, pretty good HD right off, spell-like abilities, psionics, yadda yadda yadda. Point is, you're either going to have undergone a ritual which gives you Couatl levels to buy off the ECL, or let everyone else start off somewhere past first level already.

That said, couatls have such great intelligence, they make pretty good wizards. Psions focusing on the (little help here ... Metacreativity, I think? Discipline with Int as a primary ability) discipline are great, too. But, like I said, your first several levels will be turning INTO a couatl in the first place if you start at level 1.

A coutl has an ECL of 16, so if your not going epic you only need to worry about 4 levels anyway.
I would go with a sorceror myself, it seems to fit with the draconic image and I can't see a couatl reading books. Their highest mental stat is Wisdom though, at 19 (Int and Cha are 17) so maybe a cleric or psion of the wisdom discipline (I don't know what it is).
