First why do some constructs recieve a + to hit points without a Constitution Score?

Second, how do I assign a CR to a construct I create? I was useing the number of hit die but that seems to make them worth more xp than they are challenging.

"Because its body is a mass of unliving matter, a construct is hard to destroy. It gains bonus hit points based on size, as shown on the following table."

Construct Size Bonus Hit Points
Fine —
Diminutive —
Tiny —
Small 10
Medium 20
Large 30
Huge 40
Gargantuan 60
Colossal 80

The system I use gives me the general CR, but only through testing can you really get it accurate.

Take average hit dice and divide by 4.5
Add +1 for:
Every special attack
Every five points its AC is over 10.

Add +2 for:
Damage reduction
Regeneration
Fast healing
Each immunity it has (unless the immunity is from a subtype. A creature with the fire subtype may be immune to fire, but it gets double damage from cold, so its merely a tradeoff)
For all its resistances together

Add +1 to +5 for each other special ability it has, depending on how powerful it seems. A large number of spells would be a +5, while something like Darkvision to a creature type that doesn't usually have it would be a mere +1 if that.

Take what you've now got and divide by 3.

This should give you a guestimate. Creatures with a large number of hit points often come out a bit too strong though, so keep that in mind.

The table he posted is part of the SRD (http://www.d20srd.org/), the open-content rules for the game.

Specifically, he cited the section on Creature Types and Subtypes (http://www.d20srd.org/indexes/typesSubtypes.htm), where the qualities of the Construct Type (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/typesSubtypes.htm#constructType) are discussed. If you want to make a creature, you should probably read about the qualities of its type in the SRD as a starting point.

Thanks

I looked inthe MMI and used the construct traits from there but didn't see the table the Tribble used.

When I use the Tribbles CR formula they come out way less in CR 1/3 to a 1/2 less.

What if the Constructs are using futuristic weapons as a special attack should that be worth more than +1 CR?
