However, using their Mimic Performance ability, they can make a perform (dance) check equal to the performance witnessed. Feats: A Pale Courtesan has Weapon Finesse and Combat Reflexes as bonus feats. Environment: Any Organization:Troupe (1-4, 8-10 living Courtesans) CR:7 Alignment: Always Neutral Treasure: Double standard Advancement: 11-15HD(Medium) The Ambassador's retinue of Courtesans were a flurry of colorful robes and delicate features...easy targets for a skilled assassin. Unfortunately, one alabaster fist was enough to prove your mistake. Pale Courtesans are constructs designed for protection, espionage, and smuggling. They usually resemble beautiful humanoid woman dressed in opulant robes and jewelry (though male versions are occasionally commisioned), their "flesh" seemingly painted with exotic cosmetics. In reality, they are carved out of a single block of pure white alabaster, and painted with high-impact lacquers. They move with unnatural grace, designed to mimic the physical presence of the real courtesans with whom they travel. Pale courtesans are capable of elaborate pre-rehearsed dance (using their mimic performance ability), but are not usually called on to actually perform. Pale courtesans cannot speak. Combat A Pale courtesan is usually commanded by her owner to protect something of value, or attack a specific target under specific circumstances. They use their animate cloak to blind or trip their opponents, so that they can use their sneak attack ability. They will not retreat unless ordered to by their owner. Smuggle (Su): A Pale Courtesan's body contains an extradimensional storage space, where up to 5 cubic feet of material can be stored. Retrieving an item from this storage space requires removing the Pale Courtesan's clothing, but is otherwise a standard action. Animate Cloak (Ex): A Pale Courtesan's cloak is animate, and capable of attacking independently of the pale Courtesan, as long as it remains in physical contact with her body. A Pale Courtesan's cloak attacks are always made at her full attack bonus. A Pale Courtesan's cloak attacks deal slashing damage. Blind (Ex): By making a successful cloak attack against a Large or smaller opponent, followed by a successful grapple check, a Pale Courtesan can wrap her cloak around the head of an opponetnt, blinding him until it is removed. A Pale Courtesan can release a blinded target as a free action. Sneak Attack (Ex): A Pale Courtesan can sneak attack as a Rogue, dealing an extra 2d6 damage with a succesful sneak attack. Trip (Ex): By making a successful cloak attack against a Large or smaller opponent, followed by an opposed strength check, a Pale Courtesan can trip an opponent. If the Pale Courtesan fails to trip her opponent, the opponent cannot react to trip the Pale Courtesan. Mimic performance (Ex): By watching a dance performance of up to 30 minutes in length, a Pale Courtesan can retain the ability to mimic that performance down to the barest movement. Only the most perceptive critic would be able to differentiate the performances. A Pale Courtesan cannot duplicate any supernatural effects with this ability. Damage Reduction (Su): A Pale Courtesan's natural attacks are considered magic weapons for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction. Construction A Pale Courtesan's body is carved from a single block of pure white Alabaster, painted with high-impact lacquers while her cloak is made from the finest magically-reinforced silks. These materials cost 5,000 gp. Creating the body requires a DC 20 Craft (sculpting) as well as a DC 15 Profession (Tailor) check. The keyed totem (required to control The Pale Courtesan's actions) is fashioned at the same time, and its cost (20,000 gp) is included in the cost of the construct. Multiple Pale Courtesans can be keyed to the same amulet, reducing the price of construction accordingly. After the body is sculpted, the Pale Courtesan is animated through an extended magical ritual that requires a specially prepared laboratory or workroom, similar to an alchemist’s laboratory and costing 500 gp to establish. If the creator is personally constructing the Pale Courtesan’s body, the building and the ritual can be performed together. CL 15th; Craft Construct, arcane eye, programmed image, leomund's secret chest, animate objects, limited wish caster must be at least 15th level; Price 120,000 gp; Cost 65,000 gp + 4,600 XP. Totem The Totem required to control a pale courtesan can be virtually any type of tiny object, from an ornate picture-book, to a carved ivory fan. It need only be carried on the owners body to be effective. However, it most frequently takes the form of an elegant ruby brooch. If a Pale Courtesan’s totem is destroyed, the construct (or constructs, should multiple Courtesan's be keyed to the same totem) ceases to function until a new one is created. If the wearer dies but the totem is intact, the Pale Courtesan carries out the last command it was given. |
| savant_warlord1312-04-05, 09:18 PM | I would say CR 7, maybe 8 |
| OamuTheMonk12-05-05, 12:30 AM | I split the difference. We'll go with seven. Anyone else? |
| MystErikEry12-05-05, 06:46 AM | What would the crafting prerequisites and costs be? This construct is really cool, and my next character is likely going to be a construct-maker, likely either a Wizard/Effigy Master or an Artificer, and I could see him having some of these. ^_^ |
| Morka12-05-05, 09:16 AM | At first, I thought it was something like C3-P0, a diplomat construct. But it's still very cool! I would add a 20% miss chance as long as the Pale Courtesan is wearing its cloak. For the Mimic Performance, I would say it require a mean to actually watch the performance (Arcane Eye) and a mean to duplicate it (Programmed Image). |
| OamuTheMonk12-05-05, 06:08 PM | ...but here be a couple of required spell suggestions: I would say it require a mean to actually watch the performance (Arcane Eye) and a mean to duplicate it (Programmed Image). I guess you would also need Craft Construct, Animate objects, Leomund's secret chest, and what...Limited wish? Constructs are pricey. A Shield Guardian is worth 120,000 GP? This is probably similar, with regards to caster level, price, and XP cost. I can probably just boost the entry on Shield Guardians with some changes to the spell requirements. |
| OamuTheMonk12-05-05, 06:25 PM | Thanks to the SRD, some swapping of spell requirements, and some creative...editing, Behold! Pale Courtesan Construction requirements! |
| OamuTheMonk12-06-05, 02:07 AM | Still hoping for a few more comments. Anyone? |
